Who is Susan Wokoma?

Susan Indiaba Wokoma was born on December 31, 1987 in Peckham, London.

She is a British actress, writer and director. 

The 35-year-old made her TV debut at 14 as a participant in CBBC’s Serious Jungle in 2002.

She was also a member of The National Youth Theatre, making her professional acting debut in the Bafta-winning That Summer Day.

In 2010 she gained a bachelor’s degree in acting from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

“When my Dad found my letter saying you’ve got into Rada, he lost it. He kicked me out. Not because he was an awful person,” she told iNews.

“He was scared. He couldn’t look after me in that world, he couldn’t understand it. There was no-one on television who looked like me.”

Despite her families hesitation towards her chosen career, Susan went on to create a BIG name for herself.

She was listed as one of Europe’s Forbes 30 Under 30 in 2017 and named a Bafta Breakthrough Brit by an international jury the same year.

Wokoma co-wrote an episode of Romesh Ranganathan’s sitcom The Reluctant Landlord (Series 2).

She was also in the writers’ room for the second series of the Netflix original series Sex Education.

What has Susan Wokoma starred in?

Susan is best known for her roles as Edith in Enola Holmes and Raquel in the E4/Netflix show Crazyhead.

In 2019 she starred in the comedy Year of the Rabbit and played Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.

In October 2020, Wokoma starred in the comedy Truth Seekers.

She had a leading role in the BBC drama Cheaters.

She also appeared on stage in political comedy Labour of Love, starring opposite Martin Freeman.

In May 2022, Wokoma started directing her first feature film, Three Weeks, which she also wrote and starred in.
