Did George Michael write Faith?

Like the rest of the Faith album, the track was written, arranged, and produced by George Michael for his debut LP as a solo artist.

It was released on October 12, 1987 and was a huge hit for the singer.

It reached No. 2 in the charts, and was only kept off the top spot by You Win Again by the Bee Gees.

In the US, the song reached No. 1, and stayed there for four weeks.

What do the lyrics in Faith mean?

It is claimed that the idea for the song came from producer Dick Leahy’s suggestion that George  write a rock and roll parody song.

The song uses a Bo Diddley-style beat, which adopts a classic rock and roll rhythm.

George was also trying to change his image, so that he would get taken more seriously as a solo artist, following his days in pop band Wham! days.

Speaking to press at the time, he said about Faith: “It represents the way I feel at the moment.

“It’s kind of another word for my hope and optimism.

“You know, faith to me is just really such a strong word and the more I got into the idea of the song being the single, the more I liked the idea of using it as the title track.”

How many songs did George Michael write?

As a solo artist, and a member of Wham!, George wrote 63 songs.

Aside from Faith, his other major hit was Careless Whisper which he co-wrote with his Wham! bandmate Andrew Ridgeley in 1981 in Watford.

George had seven No. 1 singles in the UK with Careless Whisper, A Different Corner, I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me) feat Aretha Franklin, Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me feat Elton John, Five Live, Jesus To A Child and Fastlove.

After his death, Spotify streams for George’s hits increased by more than three thousand percent.
