Find out what Princess Charlotte wore during a public outing that fans believe was designed by one of the Duke of Sussex’s exes.
There have been reports circulating for some time that Prince William and the Princess of Wales’ (formerly known as Kate Middleton) daughter, Princess Charlotte, has sported a necklace which was created by her Uncle Prince Harry ex-girlfriend, Chelsy Davy.
Fans first noticed the piece Charlotte was wearing around her neck on Christmas morning in 2024 as the family did a walkabout following the church service. Many wondered why Davy would design a necklace for her ex’s niece. While others speculated if the move was coordinated by an adult to have Charlotte wear it as a public dig at Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle.

Princess Charlotte’s necklace was believed to be designed by Prince Harry’s ex
On Christmas morning, Charlotte matched with her mom in a navy-and-green plaid coat and tights. For her accessories, the young princess donned a bow in her hair and a dainty gold and ruby necklace.
Her jewelry didn’t go unnoticed as several publications reported that necklace was from the brand Aya’s collaboration with Gemfields and is worth $1,800.
Davy founded Aya in 2016. The Zimbabwe-born designer’s brand specializes in fine jewelry that is African-inspired with gems sourced from across the African continent, usually in 18 karat gold designs.
As the debate raged on about whether this was a sweet connection to her Uncle Harry or a swipe at Meghan Markle, Marie Claire received a statement via Gemfields, Aya confirming that Princess Charlotte was not wearing a necklace from their collection. Therefore, any reports that it had come from there were inaccurate.
Under closer inspection, Charlotte’s necklace was linked to the retailer Accessorize, which was selling the piece for around $20.
Why Davy and Harry broke up
Davy and Harry dated from 2004 to 2010, but broke up due to their relationship being under a microscope all the time. In his memoir, Spare, Harry talked about the public scrutiny they faced, writing: “I don’t know if Chels could bear it, and I couldn’t ask her to. Chels insisted that she was not sure if she was prepared for all of that … I completely understood her desire for freedom. If I had a choice, I wouldn’t want this life either.”
In a 2016 interview with The Times, Davy recalled: “It was so full-on: crazy and scary and uncomfortable. I found it very difficult when it was bad. I couldn’t cope. I was young. I was trying to be a normal kid, and it was horrible.”
That last time Davy and Harry were seen at the same place together was when she attended the duke’s wedding to Meghan Markle at St. George’s Chapel in 2018. Inviting a former flame to their wedding is something several royals have done in the past including King Charles, who invited Camilla to his wedding when he married Princess Diana, and Prince William, who had four ex-girlfriends present for his nuptials to Kate.
Davy and Harry reportedly had an emotional phone call days before the prince tied the knot. While it’s not known for certain if that was the last time Davy and Prince Harry had contact, no one thinks he’s calling his ex these days from his Montecito mansion where he resides with Meghan and their two children.
