What Demi Moore said after losing Oscar to Mikey Madison, according to a lip reader

Demi Moore had a one-word response to losing the best actress award at the 2025 Oscars to “Anora” star Mikey Madison.

According to a lip reader, the “Substance” star couldn’t contain her disappointment after hearing that she had lost out on the coveted Academy Award on Sunday.

“Demi says ‘nice,’ but she isn’t smiling when she says it,” Nicola Hickling deciphered for the Daily Mail. “Her body is almost nodding like she had to force herself to say it.”

Moore, 62, also looked visibly upset and tensed her jaw when she heard the 25-year-old’s name being called out over her own, per a video shared on X.

Moore and Madison were nominated for one of the most coveted awards of the night alongside Fernanda Torres for “I’m Still Here,” “Emilia Pérez” star Karla Sofía Gascón and “Wicked” actress Cynthia Erivo.

After making her way to the stage in a daze, Madison addressed attendees while clutching her Oscar, saying, “This is very surreal. I grew up in Los Angeles, but Hollywood always felt so far away from me, so to be here, standing in this room today, is really incredible.”

After thanking the movie’s production company and director, Sean Baker, she added, “I just want to recognize and honor the sex worker community.

“Yes, I will continue to support and be an ally. All of the incredible people, the women that I’ve had the privilege of meeting from that community has been one of the highlights of this incredible experience.”

The “Scream” actress also addressed her fellow nominees, saying, “I also just want to recognize the thoughtful, intelligent, beautiful, breathtaking work of my fellow nominees. I’m honored to be recognized alongside all of you.

“This is a dream come true. I’m probably going to wake up tomorrow.”

“Anora,” which follows the story of a sex worker who marries the son of a Russian oligarch, swept the 97th Academy Awards on Sunday, winning the award for best picture over “The Brutalist,” “Wicked,” “Conclave,” “A Complete Unknown,” “Dune: Part Two,” “Emilia Pérez,” “I’m Still Here,” “Nickel Boys” and “The Substance.”

Baker also won best original screenplay, achievement in film editing and best director.

Meanwhile, “The Substance” won best makeup and hairstyling.

Earlier this year, Moore won her very first Golden Globe for best actress in “The Substance,” as well as a Critics Choice Award and a Satellite Award.
