‘Welcome to Plathville’: Olivia Plath Wants Out of Her TLC Contract

Olivia Plath is ready to cut the cord. In a recent Instagram video, the Welcome to Plathville star said she wants out of her TLC contract.

Olivia Plath asked ‘to be released’ from her ‘Welcome to Plathville’ contract

Olivia, 27, has starred alongside her then-husband, Ethan Plath, and his family in six seasons of Welcome to Plathville. Initially, the show focused on her and Ethan’s marriage. Many storylines revolved around Olivia’s tense relationship with her controlling mother-in-law, Kim Plath. Later seasons focused on the breakdown of Olivia and Ethan’s relationship, which ended when they announced in October 2023 that they planning to divorce.

Now, Olivia is ready to put her in-law’s reality show behind her.

“Many of you know I’ve been on a TV show called Welcome to Plathville for the past couple of years,” she shared in an Instagram video shared over Memorial Day weekend. “I have since asked to be released from my contract. And I’ve not gotten an answer yet from Discovery, which I don’t like,” she said, giving a thumbs-down sign.

Showbiz Cheat Sheet has reached out to TLC for comment on Olivia’s future on Welcome to Plathville.

Olivia has accused Ethan of ‘domestic abuse’

Olivia’s desire to quit Welcome to Plathville is not surprising given her recent comments about her five-year marriage to Ethan.

In March 2025, the professional wedding photographer posted a video on Instagram where she opened up about “things I experienced in my relationship that are domestic abuse and violence.” Olivia said that the version of her marriage that Welcome to Plathville fans saw on TV did not accurately reflect what she was experiencing in real life.

In the show, Ethan was depicted as a sheltered and naive young man who’d been raised by ultra-conservative Christian parents. Olivia was portrayed as the more worldly spouse who was drawing him out of his shell. But when the cameras weren’t rolling, Ethan could be manipulative and controlling, Olivia said.

“In arguments, he would refuse to let me leave the house. He would block my car so that I was not able to leave,” Olivia shared. When they eventually ended their relationship, he told her was planning to buy a gun to “restore order,” she said. He later claimed he just said that to scare her.

The TLC star also said that her husband left her stranded while traveling abroad, drove recklessly, and slammed furniture. When they finally met to sign divorce papers, Olivia said she was glad the show’s cameras were their to film the event because she was scared for her safety.

Throughout their marriage, Ethan would insist that no one would believe Olivia’s claims of abuse because he was not physically violent.

“He would back me into corner, he would cuss me out, he would spit in my face, and any time I threatened to call the cops on that, he would say, ‘I didn’t hit you. You have nothing on me,’” she said. “He also told me I would never find better and that everyone would treat me that way, and I know for a fact that’s a lie.”

Ethan has not commented on Olivia’s abuse allegations.
