Matt Lauer is a man about town again… in the country at least.
The reclusive former “Today” anchor was spotted solo at the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation gala at the Muses in Southampton on Saturday.
Spies describes Lauer as “very low-key.”
“Not morose,” one source noted.
“Just low-key. He didn’t socialize much, just sat at a table,” the insider added.
Lauer didn’t spend much time hobnobbing with the guests like Beth Stern, Henry Buhl, Lieba Nesis and event chair Jean Shafiroff.
Instead, he only “talked to a couple of people. He seemed kind of quiet, not very effervescent. He took a couple of photos, but was by himself,” according to another attendee.
We’re told Lauer was on the scene to cheer on his childhood friend, Jon Ledecky, who was being honored.

His girlfriend of three years, marketing pro Shamin Abas, was noticeably absent, sparking buzz that he may be back to living the single life.
But sources assured us they are still together, and Lauer seemingly confirmed they’re still in a relationship when a guest asked him where Abas was.
A source overheard the ousted anchor saying that Abas had wanted to attend the gala, “but had another event at a golf course.”
Lauer is a longtime member of the ultra-luxe Sebonack Golf Club, where memberships can start at a $500,000.
It’s unclear if Abas’ event was there. But Lauer was spotted there earlier this month while a ladies-only luncheon and trunk show was happening simultaneously.
A source from the event told us he was hanging around, but other sources familiar with the situation explained he was there preparing for a different charity event that he hosted the following night.
“He was raising money for an important charity that serves the poor and homeless on the East End of Long Island,” the source said.
A rep for Lauer did not get back to us.
