Ticketmaster face Government investigation over ‘dynamic pricing’ for Oasis tickets

TICKETMASTER will be investigated by the Government over its “dynamic pricing” strategy.

Last night, the market leading site was referred to the Competition and Markets Authority over its handling of Oasis’ 17-date reunion tour — which sold out in hours.

Conservative MP David Davis said: “The rules are not working — this needs to be put right”

The comments come after fans reported being stuck in a planned “virtual queue” on the website over the weekend.

And when they made it to the front of the queue, they discovered tickets were being sold for double that of face value.

Some fans reported £148 tickets were on at £355 within hours of going on sale, due to dynamic pricing.

The concept — which sees prices rising alongside customer demand — was introduced by Ticketmaster in 2022.

Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy confirmed the issue will be included in the Government’s review of ticket sales and consumer protection.

She said: “It’s depressing to see vastly inflated prices excluding ordinary fans having a chance of enjoying their favourite band live.”

PM Sir Keir Starmer told the Matt Chorley Show on BBC Radio 5 Live: “This is really important because this isn’t just an Oasis problem.

“We’ll make sure tickets are available at a price people can afford.”

In another development, the Advertising Standards Authority said it has had 450 complaints from fans about Ticketmaster ads — over “misleading claims on availability and pricing”.

And fans were furious after tickets on official resale site Twickets were listed for almost £500 — plus a £140 booking fee.

Fan Don Logan fumed: “Face value on Twickets they said. Legalised touting.”

Twickets founder Richard Davies said: “Twickets does not set the face value price — that is determined by the event and the original ticketing company.”

Meanwhile, Noel Gallagher shared a hug with Man City boss Pep Guardiola yesterday at the launch of a new City clothing range designed by Noel.
