The Windsors and Drop The Dead Donkey star Haydn Gwynne leaves huge fortune in will after tragic death aged 66

ACTRESS Haydn Gwynne left a £1.4million fortune to her two sons following her death.

The star died at the age of 66 in October 2023 following a battle with cancer.

She won widespread acclaim in the 1990s as the no-nonsense journalist Alex Pates in Drop the Dead Donkey.

She later delighted fans as the hilariously haughty Camilla in Channel 4’s The Windsors.

Gwynne also starred in Peak Practice, Dalziel and Pascoe, Merseybeat and as Lady Susan Hussey, woman of the royal bedchamber in the fifth series of The Crown on Netflix.

She was successful on the stage earning a Tony nominations for her role in Billy Elliot the Musical.

Her will states that the bulk of her estate valued at £1,385,601 should pass to her two sons Orlando and Cain.

But Gwynne, who lived in Harlesden, north west London, also made provision for £1,000 donations to be made to six charities.

These included Sightsavers, Cancer Research, Oxfam, Age UK, Barnardo’s and Crisis UK.

Haydn was born in Sussex in 1957 and attended the University of Nottingham where she studied sociology.

The star later took a five-year lectureship in Italy at the University of Rome La Sapienza where she taught English as a foreign language.

Her first acting role was as feminist lecturer Dr Robyn Penrose in the BBC mini-series dramatisation of David Lodge’s Nice Work in 1989.

Haydn then went on to appear in the 1991 Children’s ITV science-fiction series Time Riders and Peak Practice.

She also starred in Merseybeat in 2001 and played Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in The Audience.

Away from TV, Haydn appeared in a string of theatre productions, including Hedda Gabler and City of Angels.

Haydn lived in London with her partner Jason Phipps and their two sons.
