The Golden Bachelorette premiered less than a week ago. While the premiere went off flawlessly, with fans excited to see Joan Vassos find her next big love, problems didn’t take long to emerge. In the days following the premiere, it was revealed that one of her contestants had a recent run-in with the law. Gil Ramirez, one of the suitors picked to vie for Joan Vassos’ affection, has recently experienced legal troubles. A temporary restraining order against Ramirez was issued in mid-June, less than two weeks before he turned up at the mansion to film the show. According to a police report obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Ramirez stalked an ex-girlfriend and repeatedly tried to make contact with her and her friends and family. The victim claims Ramirez regularly showed up at places she frequented to confront her following the end of their romance. There was no mention of physical violence. The order was later dismissed.
The released report isn’t the first time fans heard about Ramirez’s unsavory past. Days before the premiere aired, someone associated with Ramirez’s ex-girlfriend posted cryptic messages online about his legal troubles. The messages were shared on Reddit ahead of the premiere. It’s unclear when the The Golden Bachelorette team learned about the legal issues.
His role on the show will be limited
According to Entertainment Weekly, the production team is working hard to limit Ramirez’s screen time on the show. A member of the production team told the publication that Ramirez had a limited role on the series. While it is unclear just how long he lasts in the competition, one can assume Joan cuts the Mission Viejo educator relatively early in the competition.
The insider told the publication that the restraining order was issued after background checks on the contestants were completed but before the men left to film the series. The dating competition premiered on Sept. 18, with Joan Vassos choosing 18 of 24 men to move forward with. While Ramirez made it past night one, he remains one of the less remarkable matches introduced during the premiere episode.
