The Fall frontman Mark E Smith’s will revealed after death aged 60 – and he left huge amount to mystery recipient

THE Fall frontman Mark E Smith didn’t leave a penny to his “soulmate” partner at the time of his death, it has been revealed.

The legendary singer instead left the bulk of his £500,000 will to his three sisters and his mum when he died in January 2018 at the age of 60.

At the time of his death from lung and kidney cancer, Smith was in a relationship with The Fall’s manager Pamela Vander.

She described herself online as his “soulmate” after his death.

But in his will, now made public, it has emerged Smith chose not to leave his lover a penny.

His estate was valued at £484,449 after debts, expenses and funeral costs had been paid.

Around £226,000 of that came from the sale of his home in Winchester Avenue, Prestwich.

He bought the property in the eighties and formerly shared it with his then wife Brix Smith.

His will was dated December 14, 2017, and was made just five weeks before his death on January 24, 2018.

It states that he wished the proceeds of sale from his house to be split between his three sisters Suzanne, Caroline and Barbara.

He asked for the rest of his estate to be divided between his mum Irene and a neighbour living close to his home.

Smith was a cult figure who founded post-punk favourites The Fall in Manchester in 1976.

He led them despite many lineup changes throughout the whole of their 42-year existence releasing 32 studio albums.

He married three times, first to American guitarist and The Fall member Brix in 1983.

A second marriage to Saffron Prior, who had worked for The Fall’s fan club, ended in divorce in 1995.

A third marriage to artist and musician and later band member Eleni Poulou in 2001 also ended in divorce in 2016.

At the time of his death, Smith was in a relationship with the band’s manager Pam.

In a social media post after his death, she stated: “I’ve lost my soulmate, the love of my life.

“We were just happy to be with each other, even in silence. But now the silence is like hell. The pain is unbelievable.

“We had so many incredible days and nights, so many plans… but I’m not angry, I’m proud that Mark tried so hard for us.

“He really gave it his all. The bravest man I’ve ever and will ever know. And the funniest.

“I love you my man, my king, my Mark. I’ll love you forever.”
