The biggest musicians always inspire conspiracy theories. For example, Taylor Swift is the subject of a conspiracy theory linking her to the Church of Satan. A former high-ranking member commented on this ridiculous claim.
Some people believe a conspiracy theory that Taylor Swift is a clone of a Satanic priestess
To millions if not billions of people, the scariest thing in the world is Satan. For that reason, he factors into a lot of conspiracy theories — and so does the Church of Satan. In actuality, the Church of Satan is an atheist organization that uses Lucifer as a symbol of their values. However, conspiracy theorists often don’t take note of that.
The Church of Satan was started by a philosopher and former carnival barker named Anton LaVey. His daughter, Zeena Shreck, was once the High Priestess of the Church before converting to Buddhism. In the 1980s and 1990s, Shreck looked a lot like Swift. Their facial features, blonde hair, and red lipstick were unmistakable. This has led to the bizarre and baseless conspiracy theory that Swift is a clone of Shreck. It seems that some people want to connect their least favorite celebrities to Satan, no matter how tenuous that connection is.
Zeena Shreck had a weird response to this conspiracy theory
In a Facebook post, Shreck discussed a TikTok video that debunked this claim. “The ‘Taylor Swift is a clone of Zeena’ conspiracy is debunked by just one voice of reason,” the post read. “In this TikTok vid by Conspiracy Pilled, the presenters examine this conspiracy, which began 12 years ago (exactly at the junction when Taylor Swift was struggling to break into mainstream music and break away from her clean, Christian, country music image to recreate herself into something more edgy).
“The presenters come to the only logical conclusion: That actually, feature for feature, Taylor Swift and Zeena do not look alike, but instead, they propose the much more likely explanation of Swift purposefully stylistically copying every detail of Zeena’s style from her early years,” the post read. It’s doubtful that Swift copied Shreck’s look, but it’s more plausible than Swift being a clone of some sort.
Why Taylor Swift is an odd fit for this rubbish
There are many musicians who have used Satanic imagery in their art. Some have done so jokingly, like when Elvis Presley sang “(You’re the) Devil in Disguise.” Others did so allegorically, like when The Rolling Stones used Lucifer as a symbol of historical evils in “Sympathy for the Devil.” Others, like Marilyn Manson and King Diamond, are Satanists who have made their religion an integral part of their careers. Swift hasn’t done anything like that.
So why do people want to believe that Swift is a clone of a former High Priestess of the Church of Satan? Some people are hell-bent on hating the “Love Story” singer. Considering she hasn’t exactly done anything demonic, they feel the need to come up with a fake backstory for her that makes her feel sinister. On top of that, outrageous conspiracy theories seem to get a lot of traction on the internet. Some people read about them because they believe them, while others read about them because they find them entertainingly absurd.
Swift isn’t Satan but she inspired a helluva conspiracy theory.
