Taylor Swift compared Travis Kelce’s “wild romantic gesture” to an ’80s John Hughes movie, saying she’d been writing about this kind of romance since she was a teenager.
“This podcast did a lot for me. I owe a lot to this podcast. This podcast got me a boyfriend,” Swift teased during her debut appearance on Travis and his brother Jason Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast Wednesday, adding that Travis used it as his “personal dating app.”
“He threw a tantrum. He threw a man-tantrum,” she joked about his failed attempts to meet her during her Kansas City stop on the Eras Tour in 2023. “It was such a wild romantic gesture to be like, ‘I wanna date you!’ This dude didn’t get a meet-and-greet and he’s making it everyone’s problem. That’s what I thought at first.”
She added that he didn’t even reach out to her management to meet her.
“When this podcast came out I was like, ‘Did he ever reach out to be like in the tents or did we know he was in the building?’ He came with [Patrick Mahomes] and he thought because he knows the elevator lady that he could talk to her about just getting down to my dressing room. That’s how it works in 1973. He was really just like I know a guy I can figure this out.”
Comparing his grand gesture to an ’80s John Hughes film, she said it felt like a modern version of “standing outside my window with a boombox like, ‘I want to date you! Do you want to go on a date with me? I made you a friendship bracelet! Do you want to date me?’”
“I was like if this guy isn’t crazy, um, which is a big if, this is sort of what I’ve been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager,” she added.
“It was wild, but it worked. I’m glad it worked I’m just circling back to ‘New Heights’ to say thank you for this,” she said while cupping his face in her hands.
“I’m the luckiest guy in the world,” Travis said.
When Jason asked Swift how she knew he wasn’t crazy, Swift replied, “He is crazy. He’s the good kind of crazy.”
She added that she knew he wasn’t crazy after the first couple times they talked.
“I was just like he’s truly trying to get to know me in a way that’s very natural, very pure, very normal. The way that he could make me laugh so immediately about normal things,” she explained.
She said Travis is very non-judgemental about people and was grateful he did not judge her for knowing nothing about football.
Elsewhere in the podcast, the Kansas City Chiefs star gushed over how Swift captivated him from the first time he saw her onstage.
“You see you on the stage and you see how crazy you get an entire stadium going and then I get you in a room and it’s like I’ve known you forever. It’s like, it was just the easiest conversation I ever had and it was just so much fun that it knocked my socks off,” he said. “She blew me away. I had never experienced something so mesmerizing on stage and then something so real and so beautiful in person.”
Travis and Swift, both 35, started dating shortly after the latter turned down the opportunity to see the athlete at her Eras Tour stop in Kansas City, Mo., in July 2023.
At the time, the tight end wanted to give the Grammy winner a friendship bracelet with his number on it.
“She doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings,” he shared on his podcast at the time, admitting he was “butthurt.”
In September 2023, Travis and the Grammy winner sparked romance rumors when she attended a Chiefs game.
However, Swift later revealed that she and Travis began talking shortly after he put her “on blast” that summer, and they were already dating by the big game.
“I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game?” she told the outlet. “We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.”
From there, the duo was spotted on several date nights around New York City and Kansas City.
They showed each other support in their respective careers, with Swift attending several Chiefs games and Travis making appearances at his girlfriend’s Eras Tour stops.
The Super Bowl champ even joined Swift on stage for her concert in London for a pre-performance “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” skit.
Most recently, the “Love Story” singer and Travis have enjoyed time together during their time off from their careers.
The NFL star also took his romance with Swift Instagram-official in July when he gave an intimate look into their quality time together, showing him and Swift on a low-key vacation to Montana earlier this year.
The two were also reportedly house hunting together in Travis’ hometown of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, earlier this month.
