Sir Rod Stewart spotted bagging booze in local Tesco as he chats with shocked staff

SIR Rod Stewart says he plans to pop to his local Tesco to greet staff after his brand of Scotch hits the shelves.

Wolfie’s Whisky will be stocked by the supermarket giant in 400 stores just seven months after the £35 tipple’s release.

Rocker Sir Rod, 79, launched the drink last year in collaboration with Loch Lomond Distillery.

And he said he is delighted with the Tesco deal because his friends keep asking him where they can buy it.

He said: “I can now point them in the right direction. I’m planning on driving down to my local store to say hello to everyone working there.”

Sir Rod has previously revealed Wolfie’s is a tribute to his lifelong love affair with Scotland.

The Celtic supporter said: “I couldn’t imagine getting involved in something like Bacardi. It had to be Scotch whisky.”

And Sir Rod hailed the success of his Scotch whisky after it was snapped up by Tesco.

Wolfie’s Whisky is to hit supermarket shelves after it secured a national listing with the retail giant just seven months after its launch.

The music legend said: “I am delighted to see Wolfie’s hitting the shelves at Tesco and making it even easier for people to pick up a bottle of our favourite whisky.

“All my friends have been asking me ‘where can I get it’ and I can now point them in the right direction.

“I’m planning on driving down to my local store to say hello to everyone working in there.”

Duncan Frew, Sir Rod’s co-founder in Wolfie’s, added: “To have secured a national retail listing within the first seven months of taking Wolfie’s to market is a huge achievement, and one we are incredibly proud of.

“This marks a huge milestone for the brand and the first of many that we’re hoping to achieve in 2024.”

Bottled at 40% abv, Wolfie’s is described as ‘wonderfully balanced with flavours of warming cinnamon, fresh vanilla and baked apple’.

Earlier this month the whisky was cleared by the alcohol watchdog after a complaint claimed it encouraged irresponsible drinking and would strongly appeal to under-18s.

The packaging of the product features a cartoon-like wolf wearing a top hat and includes the tagline “rascal of a thing”.

It prompted a complaint by a member of the public to The Portman Group, which regulates the UK’s alcohol sector, who claimed the wolf mascot would appeal to people aged under 18.

Tesco category buying manager for spirits, Hayley Easton, said: “We’re delighted to see Sir Rod’s Wolfie’s Whisky sailing into more than 400 Tesco stores this week as the only major retailer to stock the delicious new spirit.

“And we were even more excited that he surprised colleagues and customers in our Bishop’s Stortford Superstore this afternoon to see it take pride of place on our shelves.”
