Sir Cliff Richard gives reason why he’ll never play at Glastonbury

SIR Cliff Richard has snubbed Glastonbury – accusing the Worthy Farm festival of bad sound quality.

Sir Cliff, 82, who has previously gushed that it would be “great” to headline the Pyramid Stage, admitted he no longer wanted to appear after seeing other headliners.

And he said that the performance would not be what he’d expect to give an audience.

Cliff, who was heavily tipped to take to the famous stage in 2017, said: “Do you know, I have always wanted to be at Glastonbury.

“But when I saw a couple of shows with a couple of very famous people – I shall not mention them – to me their voices did not sound like the record.

“All you hear was the: ‘Boom, boom’ and everybody bouncing on the front row. So I decided I did not want to do that.”

Last year’s Glastonbury Festival saw Sir Paul McCartney make history as the oldest artist to headline the iconic festival – aged 80.

Other big names on the bill included Billie Eilish, Sam Fender, Noel Gallagher and Kendrick Lamar.

And this year’s Worthy Farm extravaganza in June will see Elton John, 75, take to the Pyramid Stage for the final UK performance of his last ever tour.

Music veteran Cliff, who will perform eight gigs next year – six in London and two in Glasgow and Blackpool, last month beat Stormzy to land his third number one album.

And in an interview with Radio 4’s Loose Ends to promote Christmas with Cliff, he told of his surprise that he is still competing at the top of the charts.

He said: “I keep thinking to myself that I have been singing next year for 65 years. There should have been somebody else competing with him – but no. I am competing with him.”

Asked about how he kept fit enough to peform, he replied: “I have always dieted. I am 82, number 2 in the charts, I play tennis and I am healthy.

“Health is the main blessing. If somehow or another you have a healthy body it must help keep you fit. I take eight vitamins everyday and 10 every other day.

“One of them is keeping me alive. I do not know which one it is, so I take them all.”
