See ‘Bosch’ Star Titus Welliver in ‘The Equalizer’: What We Know About the Potential Spinoff

CBS has revealed a first look at Titus Welliver in The Equalizer. The Bosch actor will guest star in the April 20 episode of the Queen Latifah crime drama that will also act as a backdoor pilot for a potential spinoff of the hit show.

Titus Welliver to guest star on ‘The Equalizer’

Welliver will play an ex-CIA agent named Elijah Reed in the upcoming episode, “Sins of the Father.” Juani Feliz will play Elijah’s daughter, Samantha Reed, who reaches out to McCall (Queen Latifah) when her dad goes missing. When Samantha joins forces with the Equalizer team to track down the legendary agent, she learns more about her family’s past in the Dominican Republic.

In a teaser for the episode (via YouTube), Samantha trades punches with McCall before revealing what she really wants from the ex-CIA operative turned vigilante.

“My father told me if I got into trouble I should contact you,” she says as we see a shot of Welliver’s character with a dart in his shoulder. Later, Elijah takes a blow to the face as Samantha wonders why she and her dad are being targeted.

“What do these people want with us?” she asks.

Will there be a season 6 of ‘The Equalizer’?

Welliver’s Equalizer debut comes a few days after the final episodes of Bosch: Legacy drop on Prime Video. Amazon canceled the show, which is a sequel to Bosch, last year.

If it is ordered to series, The Equalizer spinoff would focus on Welliver and Feliz’s characters. The father-daughter dynamic mirrors some aspects of Bosch: Legacy, which follow’s ex-cop Harry Bosch’s (Welliver) work as PI and his daughter Maddie Bosch’s (Madison Lintz) career as a rookie LAPD officer.

Despite talks of a potential spinoff, CBS has yet to renew The Equalizer for season 6. The show, a reboot of the 1980s action series with Edward Woodward, follows single mother Robyn McCall, who uses her background in espionage to help those who have nowhere else to turn seek justice. It also stars Tory Kittles as NYPD detective Marcus Dane, Adam Goldberg as hacker Harry Keshegian, Liza Lapira as Mel Bayani, a former Air Force sniper and old friend of Robyn’s, Laya DeLeon Hayes as Robyn’s teenage daughter Delilah, and Lorraine Toussaint as Robyn’s aunt Vi.

Welliver calls ‘Bosch: Legacy’ Season 3 ‘one of our best seasons’

Even with a new possible new show on the horizon, Welliver has said he’d be happy to continue playing Harry Bosch, who he’s portrayed for over a decade on Bosch and Bosch: Legacy, and has hinted that he’s holding out hope that Amazon might rethink its decision to cancel the show.

“The other side of that is Hollywood’s a pretty crazy place. So, I always say, ‘Never say never.’ I’ve got no tea leaves to read,” he told UPI in a recent interview about Bosch: Legacy Season 3. “So, I’m just very excited for this season to come out because I think we kind of really overshot the mark in the best possible way,” he added. “It’s probably one of our strongest, if not maybe even one of our best seasons.”

The Equalizer airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. Episodes stream live on Paramount+ with Showtime and on demand the next day on Paramount+ Essential. Bosch: Legacy is streaming on Prime Video.
