Chris Brown and a friend auditioned to Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs as kids. Brown shared why he walked away from the audition in tears.
Sean “Diddy” Combs and Chris Brown are currently both in the news for their legal problems. Combs is on trial for sex trafficking and racketeering, and Brown was arrested in London after allegedly attacking someone at a nightclub. Years before this, their paths crossed. Brown auditioned for Combs as a kid, and the music mogul’s reaction made him weep.

Brown began pursuing music as a child and once had the opportunity to audition for Combs’ Bad Boy Records.
“I was like 11 or 12 at this time,” he said on Club Shay Shay. “The same kid that … showed me the ropes in New York, me and him had songs. It was like a group. Me and him and different songs that we would do together and I would do solo songs. So we both got to audition.”
They performed a song together, directly to Combs.
“We went in there together and it was cool,” he said. “We did the song that we have together and I’m singing on the chorus.”
When they finished, Combs asked Brown to leave the room so he could talk to the other boy. As it turned out, Combs was not interested in what Brown had to offer.
“It was like like, ‘Nah, we don’t want you,’” Brown said. “So as a twelve, thirteen-year-old, I was in the elevator probably crying like a motherf*****.”
He admitted he was very nervous to sing in front of Combs, which may have impacted his singing. He ultimately walked away wanting to show Combs he could be a success. Fans have said this was likely a good thing given Brown’s already troubled career.
