Carrie and Mr. Big were happy at the end, which made killing the character off even harder. Sarah Jessica Parker insists it was the perfect love story.

Another season of And Just Like That… will premiere without Mr. Big. The character’s shocking death in the very first episode of the Sex and the City reboot was an emotional jolt most fans were not expecting. As it turned out, it was a challenging move for Sarah Jessica Parker, too. The actor who spent years pursuing Mr. Big as Carrie Bradshaw recently reflected on Carrie and Mr. Big’s relationship.

Sarah Jessica Parker talks about Carrie and Mr Big’s love story

Just ahead of the season 3 premiere of Just Like That Sarah Jessica Parker chatted with E! News. The veteran actor has played numerous roles, but Carrie Bradshaw is by far her most iconic. Parker has spoken about the friendship bonds that made the show so popular in the past, but she just discussed how important Mr. Big was to the story.

Parker explained that killing off Mr. Big was a tough decision, both professionally and personally. She told E! News that Carrie and Mr. Big’s love story was “a hugely wonderful story to tell for a lot of years.” She said ending it for good, with Big’s death, was scary because it was a major “artery” of the show.

Still, she seems happy with how the couple’s story was inevitably told. Of the love story, she said it was, ” it was romantic, and it was a disaster. It was destructive, and it was healthy.”

Carrie and Mr. Big’s relationship timeline

Carrie and Mr. Big met on the street during season 1 of Sex and the City. Their romance got off to a rocky start after Carrie’s “naked dress” led to a misunderstanding. For the next several seasons of the beloved show, Carrie and Mr. Big engaged in a will-they-won’t-they dance, much to the delight and frustration of fans. Despite numerous breakups and other relationships — including Carrie’s engagement to Aidan and Big’s short-lived marriage — the two inevitably find their way back to each other. Mr. Big traveling to Paris to win Carrie back during the finale remains a favorite moment for many fans.

The fictional couple was happily married at the time of Mr. Big’s very sudden death during the finale moments of the reboot’s premiere episode. What followed was a raw and emotional grieving process that led Carrie down some dark roads before she found herself and, as luck would have it, love again. The reboot’s storyline wouldn’t have felt so poignant had Carrie and Big’s love not been so important to the series. Only time will tell how John James Preston will be commemorated in the upcoming season.
