Hours before news of the charges broke, he released a podcast episode in which he talked about his past and current relationships.

Still, in a slightly unsettling turn of events, he opted to open up about his previous, high-profile relationship and his current marriage.

During an episode of Stay Free with Russell Brand, Brand opened up about his short marriage to Katy Perry and his current relationship with Laura Brand. Brand claims Katy Perry was involved in “nothing nefarious” that he knew of during their relationship. He discussed her star power and the reasons behind the end of their union. His feelings about Perry now are far more positive than they were shortly after their split. Brand then praised his current wife, an author and illustrator. She has not issued a public statement about the situation at this time. Brand, however, has opted to speak out.

Oddly enough, his statement did not start by denying the charges. Instead, he questioned the integrity of the government and asked his fans how they felt about the handling of other high-profile cases. He also alleged he was a “fool” before he married his wife, before finally denying that he ever engaged in non-consensual sexual activity.

Brand has been married twice. He married Katy Perry in 2010 and later married Laura Brand in 2017. Brand and his wife have three children together. The family made headlines in February when they moved from the United Kingdom to Florida following the sexual assault allegations. Brand claims he was being “attacked” by the British authorities, according to the Standard.
