Lydia McLaughlin and her family are mourning the loss of her older brother, just six months after announcing the death of her mother. According to Us Weekly, Stirling was riding a motorcycle in Newport Beach when he encountered officers. It is unclear what transpired between Stirling and the officers, but the 45-year-old was ultimately shot. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An independent investigation is underway.
McLaughlin has not addressed the incident on her social media yet, but she did issue a statement. She told TMZ,” My family and I are devastated by the loss of my brother. We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from friends, family, and the community. We kindly ask for privacy as we mourn.”
Lydia McLaughlin appeared on The Real Housewives of Orange County for the first time in season 8. While largely seen as likable, McLaughlin declined the invitation to return for a second season. She did reprise her role during season 12 but left again due to infighting among cast members. Since then, McLaughlin has authored a book and is focused on her family. She has been married since 2006 and has three sons.
McLaughlin’s former co-stars have reacted to the death. Vicki Gunvalson sent her condolences via Instagram.
