Rebel Wilson opened up about the heartbreak she suffered after losing her first child via surrogate last year — months before she welcomed her daughter Royce.
The “Pitch Perfect” actress admitted that she lost a baby during her first surrogacy attempt, saying “the embryo miscarried.”
The Aussie star took her romance with partner Ramona Agruma public in June 2022, but revealed she was already expecting a baby via surrogate at the time the pair got together.
“I’d only been dating Ramona for two months and I had to be like, ‘By the way, the surrogate looks like it’s out of the first trimester and it is serious and I am going to have a baby by the end of the year,’” Wilson said on “The Pick Up with Britt, Laura, and Mitch.”
Wilson explained the process of selecting a sperm donor for her child, saying she was presented with images of potential donors as well as their genetic history.
The donors left voice recordings in which they answered a series of questions at the “sperm shop” — which Wilson admits was interesting to listen to.
“I had like a sperm concierge, so they trawl through all the sperm shops and then give me the 10 best that match my criteria,” she added.
After suffering devastating heartbreak losing the child, Wilson bravely tried again and finally welcomed a baby girl via surrogacy in November.

Announcing daughter Royce’s arrival, Wilson revealed that having a family of her own was a longtime dream of hers.
“Beyond proud to announce the birth of my first child, Royce Lillian, born this past week via surrogate I can’t even describe the love I have for her, she’s a beautiful miracle,” she wrote at the time.
Wilson said she will be “forever grateful” to everyone involved in helping her become a mother, and praised her “gorgeous surrogate who carried [Royce] and birthed her with such grace and care.”

Her admission comes just days after she revealed that her girlfriend Ramona Agruma’s family hasn’t been very “accepting” of the pair’s relationship.
“My whole family has just been amazing,” the 42-year-old said. “Ramona’s family hasn’t been as accepting. And so in many respects, it has been a lot harder on her to have to make the news public.”
“With her, she’s not in the public eye, it’s much harder on her. It’s so sad to see what happened with her family over it. Hopefully, people will change their attitude about things,” Wilson told hosts Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne.
