Quincy Jones death UPDATES: Nile Rodgers leads tributes to producer and friend of Michael Jackson who has died, aged 91

‘Check your egos at the door’

Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson (along with Lionel Richie and producer Michael Omartian) also helmed We Are the World, a successful charity single that raised funds for famine relief in Ethiopia in 1985.

He famously told the 46 assembled stars who gathered to record the single: “Check your egos at the door.”

He is pictured, below, at the 28th Annual Grammy Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium in LA on February 25, 1986, with Dionne Warwick and Stevie Wonder.

Jones is holding the Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals, won that year for We Are the World.
