You won’t believe how much one of The Princess Royal’s favorite pieces of jewelry is actually worth.
Princess Anne has some of the most exquisite and beautiful jewels in the royal family. In addition to her own collection, Queen Elizabeth II‘s daughter has access to the one-of-a-kind pieces given to her by her mother and grandmother over the years. And one gift from her late mom is one of her favorite accessories that she still wears today.
As Princess Anne celebrates her 75th birthday, the jewelry experts at the U.K. retailer Steven Stone took a closer look at the striking aquamarine brooch that the Princess Royal has worn on a number of occasions and shared how much the stunning piece cost.
The diamond experts explained that “Princess Anne’s diamond and aquamarine brooch wasn’t always a brooch; it was originally a tiara. The headpiece belonged to Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother), who gifted it to her granddaughter in 1973 as a wedding present.
“Created by Cartier, the tiara is known as the Aquamarine Pineflower Tiara. Reflecting the French jeweler’s 1930s aesthetic, it features distinctive pinecone motifs. It is believed that King George VI commissioned the tiara as a gift for his wife around 1938, to mark their 15th wedding anniversary.”
They added: “Princess Anne had the central aquamarine and diamond element of the tiara removed and remounted as a brooch, likely to allow for more frequent wear … The tiara remains in use today, with Princess Anne typically wearing it at state events. The large rectangular aquamarine now occupies the space where the central element was removed for the brooch.”
The experts estimate the brooch to be worth a whopping $158,000.
