The prince is currently first in line for the throne; his father, King Charles, is the current monarch. It has been rumored that William will be a different type of king than his father is, and one source claims William is already preparing a well-liked royal family member as a “secret weapon” to take on more royal duties once he becomes king.

William has known from a young age that his destiny was to someday rule. He married Kate Middleton in 2011, and the world has grown to love the two as a royal couple. William and Sophie have a good relationship, and rumor has it William is counting on Sophie to be more of a royal figurehead once William takes the throne. Prince William and his aunt and uncle “get on very well,” a source told Sunday Times. The outlet also suggested that William is ready for his aunt to contribute more to the royal family’s image once William is on the throne. Sophie has long been a well-respected member of the royal family.
Prince William and Kate Middleton’s royal rule might look different than expected
Last year, William and Kate went through a more difficult year than they ever expected. The Princess of Wales was diagnosed with cancer in early 2024, and she spent most of the year away from the spotlight to undergo treatment. Now that she is cancer free, Kate is reportedly more focused on her health and family than ever before, and she and William might not be in the spotlight quite as much as they thought they would be. It seems Kate has a different perspective on life and what truly matters.
William is focused on raising his kids alongside his wife, but taking the throne is still likely on his mind. It looks like he could have some big plans to recruit other royal family members when it comes time for him to become king.
