Prince William surprised unsuspecting diners at a gay restaurant in Warsaw, Poland, when he sat down for a meal Wednesday night.
Patrons at Buetero Bistro, which is described online as a “queer space,” were stunned to see the heir to the British throne tucking into a dinner that cost less than $10.
Surreptitious snaps taken by a local during the visit show William, 40, wearing a button-down shirt while sitting with a group of his staffers as a server took their orders.
A source told the Daily Mail that “the team from Kensington Palace booked a local restaurant near where they were working, and the prince decided to join them.
“He asked them what they were doing and then asked to come along,” the insider shared. “It was a great night by all accounts. The team really appreciated him asking to join them.”
The eatery’s owner, Pawel Zasim, was just as astonished as his customers to see a royal in the flesh, telling the British newspaper that he had “absolutely not idea” William was coming and that the table had been booked for a birthday party for a woman named Daisy and 11 of her guests.
“But then a bodyguard appeared and said that this wasn’t going to be a Daisy birthday party, and then Prince William walked in,” Zasim said.
The Prince of Wales chowed down on a “sandwich in a braided roll with pulled pork” during the three-hour meal, according to the restaurateur.
“And he ate everything, so I think he liked it,” Zasim noted.
William’s visit to an gay restaurant was a welcome sign of allyship to Poland’s beleaguered LGBTQIA+ community.

According to the 2022 ILGA-Europe report, the status of gay rights in the country is among the worst in European Union nations, and the law does not recognize same-sex unions.

The prince made a surprise visit to Poland to emphasize Britain’s support for the country, which has been helping refugees displaced by Russia’s war on Ukraine.
He also met with British and Polish troops stationed near the Ukrainian-Polish border and praised their “cooperation in support of the people of Ukraine and their freedom.”
Upon landing in the Polish capital earlier Wednesday, William said in a statement that it was “fantastic” to be back.
“Our nations have strong ties,” he continued. “Through our cooperation in support of the people of Ukraine and their freedom, which are also our freedoms and yours, these ties are further strengthened.
“I’m here because I want to personally thank the Polish and British troops working in close and crucial partnership. I also want to pay tribute to the inspiring humanity of the Polish people. You have opened your hearts as much as your homes.”
The trip had not been publicized in advance and is taking place under heightened security.
A spokesperson said that William was very keen for the visit to go ahead, as he had personally requested it.
The royal was last in the Polish capital in 2017 along with his wife, Kate Middleton.
Thursday’s agenda includes laying a wreath at Warsaw’s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and a visit to a local food hall, where William will meet young Ukrainian refugees.
