Prince William and Kate Middleton ‘Let One Rule Slide’ For Their Kids on Christmas Morning

Prince William and Kate Middleton try to give their kids the most normal lives possible, which means plenty of rules. But there is one rule they ‘let slide’ on Christmas.

Prince William and Kate Middleton share three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. The Prince and Princess of Wales have done their best to keep their children out of the spotlight, though it’s not always easy being royalty. Still, William and Kate do try their best to give their kids a normal childhood — and that includes keeping rules around the house.

While William and Kate aren’t known for spoiling their children and prefer to keep them grounded, the two reportedly let go of that rule when it comes to Christmas and make sure their kids wake up with plenty of gifts from Santa.

Christmas with the royals is not much different than Christmas with any ordinary family. They spend the holidays up at Sandringham House, where they attend Christmas mass in the morning, then celebrate together as a family afterward. But throughout the year, William and Kate try to instill values in their children that other kids have. George, Charlotte, and Louis all attend school with non-royal children, which gives them a chance to view life through more ordinary eyes.

However, on Christmas morning, there is no shortage of spoiling. “While Kate and William avoid overly spoiling the children, they let the rule slide at Christmas,” a source told Us Weekly in 2021. As far as Christmas traditions go, the kids reportedly help Kate bake. “The children helped Kate bake a chocolate Christmas log and apple pie for dessert, but the highlight was making a gingerbread house, covered in their favorite sweets.”

William and Kate don’t usually say what gifts they give their children, but we can assume they spare no expense.

Christmas holds a lot of meaning for the Wales family in 2024

William and Kate have not had an easy year, though they have done their best for their children. The princess was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, and she remained out of the spotlight for most of the year as she underwent cancer treatment. By late summer, Kate was cancer-free, and she has continued to take time off and focus on restoring her health.

William described the year as “brutal” having dealt with both his father and wife receiving cancer diagnoses, so the family is likely just happy to all be celebrating Christmas together. Although some royals are choosing not to attend the Sandringham celebration this year, William, Kate, and the kids will all be there.
