Prince Harry, Meghan Markle waited ‘for some time’ for coronation invitation

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had to wait “for some time” to receive their invitation to King Charles III’s coronation, a royal reporter said.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s biographer Omid Scobie shared in an interview Wednesday that Harry always wanted to attend his father’s crowning ceremony — even with all the blowback from his family over his tell-all memoir, “Spare.”

“There was never any question on whether he would want to come or not. It was a question at one point on whether he would be invited, I think,” Scobie said on Britain’s “This Morning.”

“From what I understand, the Sussexes had to wait for some time to really get the confirmation whether they were 100 percent welcome at this event,” he continued.

Notably, Markle will remain at home in California to celebrate her son Prince Archie’s 4th birthday.

Harry, however, is confirmed to fly home to London to attend the event Saturday.

Even though the redheaded royal, 38, and the “Suits” alum, 41, fled to the US in 2020 to live a more private life, Scobie said Harry respects the line of succession.

“Ultimately, he is fifth in line to the throne,” the “Finding Freedom” author said. “He is a Councillor of State. There is a serious constitutional reason for him to be here, and he takes that seriously, even though he’s not a working member of the royal family.”

Scobie further said the historic event would be an “emotional” one for Harry, who still “cares for” his family.

“So much can happen over time,” he noted, “and I don’t think he would want to look back and regret not being there for that moment.”

The journalist also confirmed what was already made clear by the coronation’s program: Harry was snubbed from having an official role.

“Unfortunately, there is nothing carved out in the ceremony for him, and I would imagine if Harry and Meghan were working royals still, and everything had worked out differently, there may have been some way for them to have been orchestrated into it, or at least to be visible on that big balcony,” Scobie said.

“But obviously that’s not the case, and people are wondering where Harry will be. Will he be with the civvies or will he be with his family members, and if he is what row will he be in?”

Although Harry and and Charles, 74, have spoken a few times over the phone since the January release of the book, Scobie said the duke’s relationship with his brother, Prince William, remains cold.

“There has been minimal contact since the Queen’s funeral,” Scobie shared.
