Find out who is casting doubt on the Duchess of Sussexes’ claim about how hard it was marrying into the royal family as their experience contradicts that.

Royal fans know the story Meghan Markle has told about how she did not feel that she was welcomed into the royal family with open arms.

In her and Prince Harry’s Netflix docuseries, the Duchess of Sussex talked about her first meeting with Prince William and the Princess of Wales (formerly Kate Middleton) saying: “They came over for dinner and I was in ripped jeans and I was barefoot. It’s like I was a hugger, I’ve always been a hugger. I didn’t realize that that is really jarring for a lot of Brits.

“I guess I started to understand very quickly that the formality on the outside carried through to the inside … that there is a forward-facing way of being and then you close the door, and you go ‘Oh … OK we can relax now.’ But that formality carries over on both sides and that was surprising to me.”

Meghan has also claimed that she had such a difficult time becoming a member of the Firm as no one helped or showed her the royal ropes. However, that goes against what someone else who married into the family said about the adjustment. He actually called it “easy” and insisted that the royals were all so welcoming to him.

This royal described a much different welcome into the family than Meghan did

Mike Tindall married Princess Anne‘s daughter, Zara, in 2011.

The former rugby player has taken on a few different ventures since joining Britain’s famous family including launching his own whiskey brand, appearing on the U.K. reality show I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here, and hosting his The Good, The Bad and The Rugby podcast. Now, Zara’s husband has written a book in which he shares his experience about becoming a royal family member and it’s the opposite of Meghan’s recollection.

In an excerpt serialized by The Telegraph, Mike wrote: “Believe it or not, marrying into the royal family was pretty easy for me. They were always nice to me, and I was always nice to them. Simple really.”

Mike has spoken in the past about this as well and insisted the royals were as welcoming as any family would be.

What he says he regretted after Queen Elizabeth died

Following the queen’s death, Mike paid tribute to his grandmother-in-law on his podcast and talked about how the family came together when they lost the matriarch.

He explained: “To see the family come so close together overnight. You never predict it. A 96-year-old lady, you know it’s going to happen but you’re never ready for when it does.”

“Watching what Zara had to go through, obviously she loved the queen beyond everything else. Their connection with horses, they had a real bond around that,” Mike said before adding, “It’s like the world has lost its grandmother in some way.”

Mike’s co-hosts asked him if he realized how lucky he had been to have spent time with the queen and know her in a way most people never will, to which he replied: “I do. But I also have loads of regrets. Loads of regrets about not asking her so many more things when you sit down to talk — that lucky seat and being sat next to her.”
