Paddy’s journey hit a high note when sixty 7-8 year-old school children provided a majestic musical moment, by bursting into a rendition of Yellow Submarine by The Beatles, in Liverpool, below.

After a challenging few hours, this wholesome chorus of voices would have definitely put a spring in Paddy’s step.

Paddy’s cycle challenge – what’s happened so far

If you’re joining our live coverage of Paddy’s Ultra Cycle Challenge this afternoon, let us bring you up to speed with what’s happened since 8.15 this morning.

  • Radio 2’s Paddy McGuinness has been challenged to ride – on a specially customised chopper bike – from Wrexham to Glasgow over the course of the week to raise money for BBC Children in Need
  • That’s a distance of approximately 300 miles
  • He’s aiming to arrive at the BBC’s Pacific Quay building on Friday morning
  • So far he’s made his way through Flintshire, crossed the border into England, passed through Chester, caught the ferry ‘cross the Mersey into Liverpool, and ended Day 1 in Preston.

Here’s a pic of Paddy after he arrived in Liverpool today.

A reminder of Day 1’s route

Paddy began his journey in Wales at the home of Wrexham football club.

From there, he made his way through Flintshire before crossing the border to England, passing through Chester and on to Seacombe.

His next step was aboard a ferry to cross the Mersey. Finally, he’ll cycle through Merseyside and Lancashire, ending the day in Preston’s Moor Park after a gruelling 67 miles.

The rest of the week looks like this:

  • Day 2 – Preston to Kendal
  • Day 3 – Kendal to Ecclefechan
  • Day 4 – Ecclefechan to Strathaven
  • Day 5 – Strathaven to Glasgow’s finish line
