NELLY Furtado became overwhelmed with emotion as she reunited with Timberland for the first time in 16 years.
She is teaming up with the legendary rapper and pop star Justin Timberlake on a new song – nearly two decades after their last hit.

The trio teamed up on the No1 single Give It To Me in 2007.
Timbaland – who produced many of Justin’s biggest hits – joined Nelly on a video call with Capital XTR’s Kamilla Rose and the stars reminisced on their lasting success.
Nelly nearly broke down in tears as she said “new generations” discovering her music had given her “a lot more confidence” to believe in herself more.
She reflected: “I love hearing our stuff, re-exploring and celebrated by new generations. It’s fire! It’s exciting!

“And then I get to play them live and I get to see all these new fans singing along to this music we made. Yeah, of course. It’s incredible.
“I don’t know, I’m a pretty humbled person and I … I needed time to, to sort of like teach me that you know, that I’m good at what I do, because I don’t think I really believed it before.
“But now that the songs have stood the test of time, it’s given me a lot more confidence and permission to like lean in and say ‘yes, I am good at what I do.'”
Speaking about their new tune Keeping It Up, Timberland was also sentimental about their reunion and said: “For me it’s these calls that mean more.
“I’m glad that people get to hear us together. But it’s really just us coming together, you know what I’m saying? To really get this opportunity…
“We just wanted to put that love out because we felt this song had something to say to people.”
Recalling a phone call they had, Nelly said: “We connected. There was a real healing thing that happened.

“Between the three of us – me, Timbaland and JT – we’ve all had long careers with ups and downs and to me personally, doing this song together feels very authentic and is a mini-miracle.”
After that, super producer Timbaland offered up the track Keeping It Up.
Speaking earlier this year, Nelly said: “It started with Tim and JT (Justin Timberlake).
“Tim texted me like, ‘Yo, I’ve got a track for you, it’s a dance vibe, for a trio,’ and I was like, ‘You mean with JT?’ And he was like, ‘Yes’.
“Him and JT have been working on music for like a year already, separately from me, so they just had an idea and they wanted me to woman the ship a little in my direction so they could feed off that.”
Nelly – who is behind hits including Promiscuous and Maneater – said it was her daughter who made her realise the impact her music had on the industry.
She told Fault Magazine in May: “When it comes to my legacy, it has only started to connect in the last few years because of TikTok.
“One day, my daughter said, ‘Mum, your music is trending on TikTok.’
“I didn’t even have TikTok on my phone, and I didn’t know how to use it. We started making fun little videos on there.
“At the same time, I started going out and often hearing my music being played.
“I found out why the DJs were playing these old songs and discovered that people want to celebrate and have fun to my music.

“When I started in this business, people would say, “Oh, maybe I’m a one-hit wonder,” but 20 years have gone by and people still like my music.”
