FIDDLER on the Roof director Norman Jewison has died aged 97.
The filmmaker was famous for projects such as Fiddler on the Roof (1971), Moonstruck (1987), and In the Heat of the Night (1967).

He died “peacefully” at his home in Los Angeles on January 20, but his exact cause of death hasn’t been shared.
Jewison worked with Hollywood A-listers like Denzel Washington, Whoopi Goldberg, and Danny DeVito.
He also directed 20th-century Tinseltown legends like Faye Dunaway, Sidney Poitier, and Steve McQueen.
The filmmaker was nominated three times for an Oscar personally, while his films won a total of 12 Oscars from 46 nominations.
During the 1999 Oscars, Jewison was honoured with the prestigious Irving Thalberg Award – the honourary Academy Award for lifetime achievement.
His 1967 racial drama film In the Heat of the Night won best picture.
He was most active between the 1960s and 2000s and directed and wrote comedies, musicals, and romances.
Jewison was from Toronto and served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War.
