SAVAGE Garden star Darren Hayes has shared a shocking picture of his face after breaking his jaw in an accident in his home.
The 52-year-old Australian singer has been privately recovering for the past month after collapsing in his home in Santa Monica, California.

In an Instagram post on Friday, Darren shared pictures of his badly swollen and bruised face and neck, alongside an X-Ray showing metal plates on the inside of his face.
Darren explained that the “lengthy recovery period” meant he felt he had to come forward to explain what happened to him rather than disappearing.
In a long caption next to the pictures, Darren wrote: “I lost consciousness – I fainted shortly after getting out of bed and collapsed 3 times, losing consciousness each time.
“The blunt force trauma was so severe it snapped my left jawbone in half. I woke up in a pool of blood, terrible pain in my left side of my head and with 9 teeth shattered.”
Thanking the medical team at the ER who helped him, he added: “I could have died if I landed in a different position. They scanned for and ruled out heart issues and anything neurological.”
Getting reconstructive surgery four days later, the I Knew I Loved You singer was fitted with a titanium brace to reconnect his jawbone. His mouth was then wired shut for eight weeks.
“I am under incredible care. I have an amazing cardiologist and oral surgeon and we are trying to work out how and why I have been fainting,” he continued, noting he had been suffering fainting spells for a while before the incident.
“So far my heart is normal, my arteries are normal and I don’t have a brain tumor or anything that could cause the accident.”
“No judgement to those who partake but I do not take drugs or drink alcohol – this was a complete shock,” he added. “But we are still investigating.
“I just wanted my fans to know why I’ll be out of action for quite some time.”
“After my jaw heals it’s a long road to rehabbing my jaw function and then of course replacing my shattered teeth.
“I love you folks. I’m so grateful to be alive and every day I’m getting stronger.”
“I’m almost one month post surgery now and I’m only just starting to feel better. I’m so grateful to my loved ones for coming to my rescue and to the doctors and nurses who have treated me with such care,” he concluded.
“After surviving a brutal divorce, losing my Mother, finding out my father died and then this I have had moments of deep sadness. But I am a survivor and I’ll come back strong.”
The accident notably happened two years to the day since the death of Darren’s mother.
Since the initial post, Darren has been flooded with support by fans who have offered him comfort, and he has also shared a loving post of his pet spaniel, who has been by his side.
He also praised his partner, who he keeps away from the limelight, instead sharing a picture of them as puppets.
“It’s not all bad news,” he wrote. “The kindest, most generous and loving man came in to my life almost two years ago, like a miracle.
“While I want to protect our private universe for as long as we can here’s a hilarious muppet picture of us.
“Thank you Heriberto for loving me and taking such care of me during some of the most challenging times in my life. I loved you the first time ever I saw your face.”
