Nicole Kidman reveals her best and worst red carpet moments: ‘Got to have a few train wrecks!’

Nicole Kidman has had quite the style evolution.

While she always hits a high note on screen, with a career spanning decades the “Babygirl” actress, 57, admits in her interview for W Magazine’s Best Performance Issue 2024 that some of her past fashion moments weren’t, well, great.

“My mama thought I had many bad red carpet looks,” she confessed when asked.

“I remember wearing a headdress once to the Golden Globes,” Kidman continued. “I didn’t know what I was doing. Got to have a few train wrecks!”

Kidman appears to be referencing the 2004 awards show, where she chose a Dior midi dress covered in metallic paillettes and a glittering gold headband in her flapper-style curled hair.

She clearly cracked the code on red carpet dressing, however, as the award-winning actress has worn plenty of swoon-worthy gowns over the years.

Her favorite of the bunch? A chartreuse Dior gown designed by John Galliano, which she modeled for the 1997 Oscars with then-husband Tom Cruise.

The elegant sleeveless style featured floral embroidery around the neckline and down the sides and Kidman paired the look with a very-nineties dark lipstick.

“But I also love the Galliano gold gown for the 2000 Oscars, which no one talks about,” Kidman added, shouting out the gold mesh gloves she wore as an accessory.

No stranger to a menswear-inspired look, she adds that she’s partial to tie and suit moment. “My natural way of dressing would be far more pants, tie, suit, and a jacket,” she told the publication.

“My first purchase when I’d saved all my per diem money was an Alaïa suit. I wish I kept it. It cost a fortune. It’s nauseating that I did that,” she confessed.

As it turns out, Kidman has learned her lesson and is saving her red carpet looks for her daughters Sunday Rose, 16, and Faith Urban, 14, whom she shares with current husband Keith Urban.

“I have them all beautifully boxed,” she said about the pieces. “They’re museum pieces.”

“They raid my wardrobe all the time,” Kidman added of her teenagers. “I’m like, ‘Okay, what’s mine is yours.’ But I don’t raid their closet, even though I’m like, ‘Oh, that’s cute.’”

While the A-lister said it’s a “one-way” exchange between herself and her daughters, it appears that the love of fashion has inspired Sunday Rose to entire the business as the teen made her modeling debut on the runway in October.

Kidman’s latest role as Romy in the erotic thriller film “Babygirl” has earned her multiple awards and nominations this season.

In fact, she’s up for the Golden Globe 2025 award for best actress in a drama motion picture.

Fans can tune in on Sunday night to see if the superstar adds another look to her red carpet favorites column.
