Nicolas Cage’s son arrested for assault with deadly weapon after alleged mental health crisis

Nicolas Cage’s son Weston Coppola Cage was arrested Wednesday for assault with a deadly weapon, Page Six can confirm.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office’s records, the 33-year-old was taken into police custody at 7 a.m. local time and booked at the station at 7:57 a.m.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department tells Page Six Wednesday that Weston was arrested due to an incident that took place back in April. It’s unclear why it took weeks to book him.

The Sun reports, however, that the arrest is related to a mental health crisis the actor suffered weeks ago, in which he allegedly hit his mother, Christina Fulton.

The “Doors” actress, 57, was photographed at the time at a parking meter in Los Angeles with a black eye and yellow bruises all over her face.

Sources previously told TMZ that the LAPD was on the lookout for Weston after he had gotten into a physical altercation with his mother following a verbal dispute.

Fulton had reportedly been trying to console her son during what was an emotional moment before he allegedly turned on her.

The mixed martial artist then escaped his mom’s house before cops arrived on the scene, per TMZ.

Following the incident, Fulton explained what allegedly occurred in a statement, according to People.

“On Sunday, April 28, I was reached out to by several of Weston’s best friends for assistance because they were experiencing Weston in a mental-health crisis,” she reportedly said.

“Upon my arrival, I was met by my son who clearly was in a state of a mental-health breakdown, which in turn became a horrific experience.”

Fulton concluded, “I have always supported helping my son with his mental-health struggles. I am doing all I can to get him the continued support he needs.”

A family source told the Sun Wednesday that they “knew” Weston’s arrest would happen but “needless to say, it is a very big shock.”

Law enforcement confirmed to Page Six that Weston is no longer in custody as of Wednesday afternoon.

His bail was $150,000 but he was released on bond. Per the Sun, his famous father made the payment.

Reps for Nicolas did not immediately respond.

Meanwhile, an attorney for Fulton tells Page Six, “My client has fully cooperated with the investigation and supports any decision made by law enforcement after they independently examined the evidence and the facts. This is a criminal matter and my client is simply a victim and witness.”

The exes, who were never married but dated from 1988 to 1991, only share Weston.

However, Nicolas, 60, has two other children: son Kal-El Cage, 18, with ex-wife Alice Kim, and daughter August, 1, with wife Riko Shibata.
