CBS is headed back Down Under in 2025. The second season of NCIS spinoff NCIS: Sydney premieres in January.
‘NCIS: Sydney’ Season 2 coming to CBS in January
On Nov. 13, CBS revealed winter premiere dates for new and returning shows, including NCIS: Sydney. Season 2 of the Australian-set drama will begin airing on Friday, Jan. 31 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
“Y’all ready for this?” asked series star Olivia Swann on Instagram after the premiere date was announced.
The Friday night timeslot for the first international NCIS show is a change from season 1, when it aired on Tuesday evenings. For season 2, NCIS: Sydney will take over S.W.A.T.’s 8 p.m. timeslot. S.W.A.T. is moving to the 10 p.m. slot previously occupied by Blue Bloods, which will wrap up its 14-season run in December.
NCIS: Sydney Season 2 will have 10 episodes. All of season 1’s core cast will return, including Swann as NCIS Special Agent Michelle Mackey, Todd Lasance as AFP Sergeant Jim “JD” Dempsey, Sean Sagar as NCIS Special Agent DeShawn Jackson, Tuuli Narkle as AFP Liaison Officer Evie Cooper, Mavournee Hazel as AFP Forensic Scientist Bluebird “Blue” Gleeson, and William McInnes as AFP Forensic Pathologist Dr. Roy Penrose.
What to expect from ‘NCIS: Sydney’ Season 2
NCIS: Sydney’s first season ended with the surprising revelation that Department of Defense official Richard Rankin (Lewis Fitz-Gerald) was likely connected to the plot to kidnap JD’s son. CBS hasn’t revealed an episode synopsis for the season 2 premiere, but we can expect the show to pick up following that shocking cliffhanger.
We also know that in season 2, the team will face off against a powerful adversary. As they look more closely at Rankin, they discover “a looming destructive chaos that threatens the stability of the region,” according to a press release from Paramount+ Australia.
“The cases are bigger, locations more exotic, the stakes much higher,” the release teases. “With everything on the line, will NCIS: Sydney triumph against all odds – or be torn apart at their very core?”
‘NCIS’ and ‘NCIS: Origins’ get midseason premiere dates
CBS has also revealed midseason premiere dates for the two other shows in the NCIS-verse: NCIS and NCIS: Origins.
NCIS Season 22 returns on Monday, Jan. 27 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following NCIS: Origins at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
Fans can also look forward to new episodes of other CBS dramas in the new year. FBI, FBI: International, and FBI: Most Wanted return on Tuesday, Jan. 28 starting at 8 p.m. Matlock and Elsbeth are back on Thursday, Jan. 30, and Fire Country and S.W.A.T. resume on Jan. 31.
Watson, a new medical mystery series, premieres Sunday, Feb. 16 at 9 p.m., followed by The Equalizer Season 5 in a new 10 p.m. timeslot.
NCIS: Sydney Season 1 is streaming on Paramount+.
