Meghan Markle recently revealed that she ditched her ‘American Riviera Orchard’ brand in favor of a new one called ‘As Ever.’ However, she is facing backlash over allegations that her logo is too similar to a Spanish city’s coat of arms.

Before Meghan Markle met her now-husband, Prince Harry, she was both an actor and a successful lifestyle blogger. The Duchess of Sussex previously owned a lifestyle blog called The Tig, where she showcased everything from food to travel and fashion. Now, Meghan is preparing to step back into that space with the launch of her new lifestyle brand, As Ever, but she’s already facing some backlash over allegedly copying the logo from a Spanish city’s coat of arms.

When Meghan launched the site, she shared a video on Instagram that explained she had changed the name from American Riviera Orchard to As Ever, which in her words means “as it’s always been.”

“This new chapter is an extension of what has always been my love language, beautifully weaving together everything I cherish — food, gardening, entertaining, thoughtful living, and finding joy in the everyday,” Meghan wrote alongside the Instagram video. She unveiled her website, asever.com, as well as a new Instagram account called aseverofficial, to welcome in her new brand.

However, it didn’t take long for people to find something wrong with it. According to Spanish media site Arabalears, a Spanish politician is reportedly considering sending a letter to Meghan about her logo. Xisca Mora, the mayor or Porrores in Mallorca, Spain, thinks Meghan directly copied the town’s coat of arms — which consists of two birds fluttering around a palm tree — for her own As Ever logo, which consists of a different style and color of the exact same thing.

“We are not angry … but we do not want there to be duplication with a historical image,” Mora told Arabalears.

The mayor of Porrores has ruled out suing Meghan Markle

Meghan can breathe a sigh of relief that she won’t be involved in a lawsuit with the small Spanish town. Mora says that the legal costs would be too much for such a small town, so it wouldn’t be worth the lawsuit.

Instead, Mora hopes to convince the Duchess of Sussex to change the brand’s logo without any legal debate. “We will explain where the history of the coat of arms comes from, that we have been using it for many years, that it is very old and what it represents so that, please, they change the brand image,” Mora says.

The plagiarism accusations are already putting a dent in Meghan’s exciting new launch, though it’s unclear whether the duchess will end up changing her own logo.
