Meghan Markle stepped down from her royal role back in 2020, but there is still information coming out about how she felt toward the royals while being a member of the family.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took a risk by leaving the royal family in 2020, but they knew it would make them happier. That does seem to be the case, but ultimately at the expense of Harry’s relationship with his family.
These days, Harry and Meghan don’t say much to the royal family, and in shocking new claims, Meghan reportedly thought the royals were acting like “babies” during her time in the royal family.
Meghan Markle didn’t like the way certain royals were behaving
Meghan and Harry didn’t last long in the royal family. Harry was seemingly always looking for a way to escape, and Meghan was his answer. Plus, Meghan was in her mid-30s when she and Harry met; unlike Kate Middleton, Meghan didn’t take on the royal rules from a young age, so she likely felt they were too much of a contrast from how she had lived the first part of her life.
According to royal author Tom Quinn, Meghan wasn’t happy with the way the royals behaved in the firm (no surprise there, considering she left). Per Express, a royal source told Quinn, “Meghan really disliked the hierarchy. Many of the rules do seem pretty pointless and exist only so that the relative status of each senior royal is protected.”
The source continued, “And the senior royals are such a sensitive bunch — if one gets a gold pen or a new car, they all want one. Meghan thought they behaved like babies.”
Meghan didn’t take well to the hierarchy rules, including curtsying to the late queen. Although Meghan and Queen Elizabeth II always had a good relationship, Meghan has said in the past that she was surprised when she actually had to curtsy to the queen — apparently, it’s not just something they do in the movies.
Meghan Markle seems happier living in the US
Meghan and Harry bought a house in Montecito, California back in 2020, and they have lied there ever since, raising their two kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Meghan has hardly spoken to the royal family with the exception of a handful of situations, and she and Harry seem quite content with their United States lives.
Harry said recently that he is happy living in the US because it gives him opportunities to do things with his children that he wouldn’t be able to if he were still a working royal. Overall, it doesn’t look like the two will ever move back across the pond.
