Meghan Markle tears up over exit: ‘I tried so hard’ and ‘wasn’t good enough’

Meghan Markle tears up over how “hard” she worked to “fit in” before stepping back from her royal duties in January 2020.

“I tried so hard,” the “Suits” alum says in the second half of “Harry & Meghan,” which dropped on Netflix Thursday.

“That’s the piece that’s so triggering,” she continues. “Because … it still wasn’t good enough, and you still don’t fit in.”

Markle, 41, describes leaving England, saying in the docuseries that a man overseeing the plane’s crew took his hat off and shared his appreciation for “everything [she] did for [the] country.”

The Duchess of Sussex remembers, “It was the first time that I felt like someone saw the sacrifice, not for my own country, for this country. It’s not mine.”

When the couple landed in Canada, Markle says she collapsed into the arms of one of Prince Harry’s longtime security guards.

The “Deal or No Deal” alum shares that she then told her husband’s employee that she “tried so hard,” to which he replied, “I know you did. I know you did, ma’am. I know you did.”

After their Canada move, the pair and their now-3-year-old son, Archie, stayed at Tyler Perry’s Los Angeles estate in March 2020. They moved to Montecito, Calif., later that same year, where they welcomed daughter Lilibet, now 1, in June 2021.

The duo officially resigned from all of their royal duties four months before their baby girl’s arrival.

“Following conversations with the duke, the Queen has written confirming that in stepping away from the work of the royal family it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service,” read a February 2021 Buckingham Palace statement.

“While all are saddened by their decision, the duke and duchess remain much loved members of the family.”

Harry, 38, clarifies in the Netflix show that Markle is not “to be blamed” for their new life.

“It was my decision. She never asked to leave. I had to see it for myself,” the Duke of Sussex explains, noting that he had “no other option” due to his wife’s mistreatment by the media and her battle with suicidal thoughts.

Markle revealed in March 2021 that she contemplated suicide while pregnant with Archie, saying at an event earlier this month that “sharing experiences and sharing stories has an enormous impact.”

Harry has accused his family members of “not being willing to tell the truth to protect” himself and Markle amid her struggles.
