Meghan Markle described her and Prince Harry’s famous sit-down interview in honor of their engagement an “orchestrated reality show.”
“It was, you know, rehearsed,” she said in the third episode of their new Netflix docuseries “Harry & Meghan.”
“We did the thing out with the press, then we went right inside, took the coat off and did the interview. So it’s all in that same moment.”
Meghan, 41, said they were given a heads up about what would be asked and what would be expected of them.
“We weren’t allowed to tell our story because they didn’t want,” Meghan continued before Harry interjected, “We are not allowed to tell our story.”
“That is true,” Meghan responded. “I guess that’s why we’re here.”
The couple also spoke about Meghan’s first walkabout post-engagement, which she didn’t anticipate, and how well received she was by the public.
“I thought to myself, what a dream,” Harry said. “I’ve found a woman that not necessarily finds this easy, but is able to do it and make it look easy.”

During the now-famous BBC interview from 2017, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex discussed the ring with which the redheaded royal proposed, as well as what Princess Diana would’ve though of their bethrothal.
“The ring is yellow gold, because that’s [Meghan Markle’s] favorite, and the main stone itself I sourced from Botswana, and the little diamonds either side are from my mother’s jewelry collection to make sure that she’s with us on this — on this crazy journey together,” Harry said during the interview.
“The inclusion of that and, obviously not being able to meet his mom, it’s so important to me to — to know that she’s a part of this with us,” Meghan explained.
While Markle was initially welcomed into the family with open arms — she received an invitation to Queen Elizabeth II’s pre-Christmas lunch and spent Christmas Day with the royals that year — the tide turned when she and Harry, 38, staged their Megxit.
“It’s just like a big family like I’ve always wanted,” Meghan said in the docuseries of the holiday event. “There was just this constant movement and energy and fun.”
