Margot Robbie’s Pirates Of The Caribbean film WILL go ahead – after she insisted it was axed

MARGOT Robbie’s Pirates Of The Caribbean will be made – despite her claiming it had been cancelled.

Film producer Jerry Bruckheimer has insisted Margot Robbie’s version of the hit film franchise will still be made and just needs more work.

It comes a month after Australian star Margot, 32, said in an interview the project had been shelved.

Jerry said of the project: “It’s alive for me. It’s alive for Disney.

“I’m sure she was disappointed it didn’t go first, or maybe not because she’s very busy, so it might be a blessing to push this a bit.

“We believe we’ll get it made. It’s a very strong story.”

There were two Pirates projects in the works, one with Margot as the lead and another with a younger cast.

Jerry, who has previously worked as a producer on the Pirates franchise, said Margot’s film needed more time to be developed.

He added: “The Margot Robbie one needs a little more work.
“The younger cast one is close. Hopefully we’ll get both of them.”

Margot said last month she had been told the project had been canned.

She said: “We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led – not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story – which we thought would’ve been really cool.

“But I guess they [Disney] don’t want to do it.”

The Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise began in 2003 with Johnny Depp making them a global hit as Captain Jack Sparrow.

The final film, 2017’s Dead Men Tell No Tales, took over £610million worldwide.

As a whole the franchise has taken in more than £3.7billion at the global Box Office.

Earlier this year The Sun revealed how a call sheet appeared to confirm Johnny Depp would be returning to the franchise.

Margot currently stars in new film Babylon – follows her life as Nellie – an IT girl living in the 1920s.

The character was inspired by Hollywood’s original IT girl Clara Bow, who caused a stir by talking in public about her own sexual desires.

Margot, who stars alongside Brad Pitt in the film, said the film is more out there than her 2013 Box Office smash, The Wolf Of Wall Street.

She said of the film: “I remember being on set and thinking, ‘I’ll never be in a film as crazy as this ever again’. And then I made Babylon.

“There’s a dizzying amount of debauchery. One of the most disturbing, chaotic scenes I’ve ever witnessed is in this film, and it involves a fight with a snake.

“I won’t tell you who wins or loses that fight but, trust me, it’s insane.”
