Macarena star unrecognisable 27 years after global hit song and dance craze

THE dancing sensation behind iconic party tune the Macarena has been spotted looking unrecognisable 27 years after the hit song.

While band Los Del Rio sang the song – the well-known dancer, who is key in the song’s music video – looks totally different to her days at the front of the dance craze.

American actress and dancer Mia Frye was in her 30s when Macarena by Los Del Rio hit the charts, and soared to number one.

While the dancer isn’t part of the Spanish group, made up of singers Antionio Romero Monge and Rafael Ruiz Perdigones, she was behind the iconic dance moves that went on to become a craze around the world.

Mia, 58, sported long blonde braids and a bright orange hair wrap in the video, as well as an eye-catching purple crop top and tiny booty shorts.

She stood at the front of a team of female dancers as they performed the routine in front of a bright white background.

But now, Mia looks very different from the video, sporting long black waves – and often wearing minimal make-up on Instagram.

The star still works as a choreographer and artist, and is often seen in the dance studio – as well as dressing up for nights out.

Mia isn’t the only 90s star who looks completely different from their rise to fame 30 years ago.

Yesterday, we revealed how pop legend Zoë Pollock looks completely different to the music video from Sunshine On A Rainy Day.

The tune, released as her first single from her debut album Scarlet Red and Blue, was a massive success in the early 90s.

Sunshine On A Rainy Day was originally released in 1990, placing at number 53 in the UK charts.

A year later a Mark ‘Spike’ Stent remix helped it reach to number four, as well as huge success in Ireland, Zimbabwe, Sweden and Luxembourg.

In 1996 her second studio album Hammer was released.

The star decided to stay out of the limelight for a number of years until she shared her third album, Lago Ausente, in 2021.

Zoe, now aged 54, released a song My Love Is Real with Nessi Gomes back in February this year.
