A lip-reading pro has decoded what the Prince and Princess of Wales said to each other while at a market in Scotland.

Prince William and the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) have been in Scotland as the two decided to take a trip there for their 14th wedding anniversary.

The Prince of Wales has said before that the country holds a place in his heart. While it’s where he was when he learned the tragic news that his mother, Princess Diana, had died. He also has some great memories in Scotland as it’s where he met his wife.

Here’s what someone who used to work for William and Kate said about them choosing to celebrate their anniversary there. Plus, what a lip reader observed the future king and queen talking about while at an artisan market on the first day of their visit to the Isle of Mull.

Former Palace employee says the royals feel ‘most comfortable’ in Scotland

Grant Harrold was King Charles’ butler for seven years. During his time working for the now-monarch Harrold’s duties included those of valet, housekeeper, house manager, and driver. He also looked after Prince Harry, Prince William, and Kate whenever they stayed at Highgrove House.

Speaking on behalf of Prime Casino, Harrold said: “It is no surprise that William and Catherine [chose] to celebrate their anniversary in Scotland. For generations, it has been the place where the family feels most comfortable and at home. Balmoral was always the queen’s favorite place to go on holiday, and the recent redesign of the gardens by the king shows how important time there was to him.

“Balmoral was always my favorite place to go with the king as you could just see how much he loved his time there, and I am sure William has similar memories of seeing how much the country meant to the rest of his family.”

The former royal butler added: “A royal holiday is very different from ours, we always think of a great holiday as jetting off around the world to somewhere warm, but the royals travel so much for work that staying somewhere closer to home that has meaning to them feels like much more of a break than travelling abroad. Scotland is home to them.

“Obviously the Waleses then have their own connections to the country beyond those shared with the rest of the family, having met there during their time at St. Andrews. It is a country that has played such a huge role in their lives and the lives of their family for generations, so it is the perfect location to celebrate their anniversary.”

What a lip-reading expert caught William and Kate saying about ‘inheriting’ something

During their trip, Prince William and Kate chatted with locals selling cheese, honey, and other local produce at an artisan market. And a professional lip reader caught the princess making a joke to her husband.

Nicola Hickling is the founder of LipReader, a company specializing in lipreading and expert witness reports. Hickling has spearheaded the development of innovative technologies and services that empower individuals with hearing impairments. She has also appeared in the likes of the Daily Mail, Page Six, Newsweek, and more.

She noted that when the couple were talking with one of the stallholders, they were given a small model of a white cottage.

Speaking on behalf of Fruity King, Heckling shared with Showbiz Cheat Sheet that in a brief moment, William turns to the princess and says: “There’s four of them, apparently,” referring to the little model cottage.

Kate then places her hand on William’s shoulder and replies: “Could we inherit it?” He nods, before she adds: “I want it.”
