A lip-reading pro has uncovered what the Princess of Wales said to Jannik Sinner when she presented him the trophy at Wimbledon.
The Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) attended the Wimbledon Men’s Final with her husband, Prince William, and their two eldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, on July 13.
After the match between two of the sport‘s biggest stars, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, the Princess of Wales, who has been the All England Lawn and Tennis Club patron since 2016, presented the runner-up shield to Alcaraz and the winner’s trophy to Sinner.
Now, a professional lip reader is sharing what they observed the princess saying to the tennis champ when she spoke to him.
Here’s more on that, plus why Sinner found talking to Kate a bit difficult, and which A-list celebrity is being praised for his behavior when Kate arrived at the event.
Lip-reading expert decodes what Kate told Sinner when she presented him with the trophy
Jeremy Freeman is an expert witness and forensic lip reader. He analyzed the footage of Kate talking to Sinner before she handed him the championship trophy and picked up on what the royal told him.
According to Freeman, the princess said: “You played a great game, you did so well … enjoy your celebrations.”
Sinner admitted that he found it a bit challenging conversing with the Princess of Wales at first because he wasn’t sure how to properly speak to her.
“In the beginning, I didn’t know what to say,” Sinner shared during his post-match press conference per The Sun. “It’s difficult to understand, you know, how you can talk. I always try to talk very natural.”
The Italian tennis player also met Prince George and Princess Charlotte and signed some tennis balls for the children.
“I asked the kids if they play tennis and asked them what kind of rackets they play with, these kinds of things. It was amazing. I believe for us tennis players, it’s so nice to have them watching us because it makes it even more special,” he said. “You see how much they care about tennis and the sport itself. It’s very prestigious. I’ve been lucky to meet [the Princess of Wales] and the whole family, and it was a very nice moment.”
One celebrity attendee was praised for respect he showed when Kate arrived to the event
Another moment that made headlines was earlier in the day when the Wales family arrived to a warm round of applause and made their way to their seats in the royal box.
Video was shared of their arrival with several VIPs in the shot and immediately, Matthew McConaughey can be seen standing up and applauding Kate even though some others around him remained seated.
The Academy Award winner’s choice to stand had many fans praising him on X, writing, “Matthew McConaughey standing to applaud the Prince & Princess of Wales. What a lovely southern gentleman,” and “Matthew was raised right. Always something I have admired.”
Others said they were a bit surprised an American knew to stand up for the royals, but they appreciate that he did.
