It allegedly came after Fox and former Big Brother star Narinder had engaged in an online spat over politics.
Fox has now been charged under Section 66A of the Sexual Offences Act 2003 and will appear in court next month.
The charge makes it an offence to intentionally share a sexual image of someone without consent, with the aim of causing alarm, distress, humiliation, or for sexual gratification.
If convicted, he faces up to two years in prison and could be placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
The picture was originally taken in 2009 as Good Morning Britain panellist Narinder was climbing out of a taxi.
It was captured without her knowledge or consent.
Narinder, 52, reported the post to police when it was shared – triggering an 11-month investigation by the Metropolitan Police.
Speaking previously about the impact of the incident, the married mother-of two-said she felt “violated, humiliated and degraded.”
Fox, who shares two children with actress and singer Billie Piper, has not yet commented publicly on the charge.
He has repeatedly sparked backlash for his incendiary views on race, gender, and COVID-19, and was sacked from GB News in 2023 after making sexist remarks about a female journalist live on air.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “A man has been charged with a sexual offence following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police.
“Laurence Fox, 46, will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 24 April charged with an offence contrary to section 66A of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.
“The charge relates to an image that was posted on a social media platform in April 2024.”
Laurence Fox was contacted for comment.
