Larry’s nephew Dennis Tamblyn announced his uncle’s passing on Friday in a post to Facebook.

Dennis said: “A few years ago, The Standells played at Hotel Congress here in Tucson and Larry stayed with me.

“It was so great to hang out with him and catch up. He was still making music well into his later years. You will be missed, Uncle Larry.”

The Standells are an American garage rock band from LA that have been referred to as a ‘punk band of the 1960s’.

Formed in 1962, they are thought to have inspired the Sex Pistols and the Ramones during the band’s six-decade career.

In 1965 they signed with Capitol Records label Tower and had producer Ed Cobb write their biggest song – Dirty Water.

The band had never been to Boston at the time – but the song has since become a Boston anthem and is played after victorious Boston Red Sox matches at their home Fenway Park.

Since 2019, the tune has also been played after Liverpool fixtures after the club was taken over by the same owner as the baseball team.

The band appeared in a number of TV shows and movies including the sitcom Bing Crosby Show, and the flicks Get Yourself a College Girl in 1964 and Riot on Sunset Strip in 1967.

Tamblyn came from a family of Hollywood stars, with his brother Russ starring in Django Unchained and Drive.
