Kylie Minogue channels Elvis to get ‘intimate’ Las Vegas residency started in style

KYLIE MINOGUE cemented her legacy as one of the biggest artists of the century in the opening night of her Las Vegas residency.

The Aussie hitmaker delivered a masterclass in performance, wowing a packed house with her most “intimate” show ever — and admitted “her eight-year-old self” would be in disbelief at the Sin City spectacular.

Kylie delivered a flawless 75-minute set on Friday night, taking the 1,000-strong crowd on a trip down memory lane through her long and glittering career.

The new theatrical nightlife concept brings Kylie closer to her fans than ever before at The Venetian Hotel’s Voltaire club, which offered table service in a retro speakeasy style, allowing guests to order Kylie wine, caviar and cookies from a menu.

Among her 20-song setlist — including summer smash Padam Padam — Kylie paid tribute to Vegas legend Elvis Presley, singing his 1961 love song Can’t Help Falling In Love, which delighted the audience.

The pop princess even managed four outfit changes, entering the stage in a gold, glittering Dolce & Gabbana gown and thigh-high gold boots, before changing into a sexy black PVC catsuit with built- in stiletto heels.

For up-tempo dance numbers, Kylie was at  home in her se- quinned leotard, styled with a pink feather boa, the long tassels flanking her shoulders and catching the light as she shimmied around the dancefloor.

As for the finale, she looked stunning in a scarlet PVC mini- dress with a Vegas belt.

Ahead of the momentous night, Kylie said: “I’m very aware this is an amazing time where fans who’ve been with me for years and years are enjoying this moment for me and with me.

“But then this next generation . . . in their twenties, teenagers and kids. It’s brilliant.

“It reminds me of when I started and had multi-generational audiences.

“I think I have this kind of new gen loving it and just being so accepting of someone my age, just embracing that, which gives me more energy. It kind of feeds itself. It’s a great moment.”

The residency has been years in the making and Kylie explained what drew her to the project.

She said: “On paper there’s a lot of appealing points about having a residency.

“It’s a very glamorous version of having a locker at work.

“You can leave some stuff there.

“You don’t have to pack everything down into a truck and drive it.

“So I think there’s a lot to be celebrated and there’s reasons people do that.”

Lily’s US return is an act of love

LILY ALLEN is ready to make a go of it with husband David Harbour as she auditions for drama school in New York.

The move will mean the British singer- turned-actress stays on the same side of the Pond as the US star of Netflix series Stranger Things, whose career is mostly based in the States.

Lily said this week: “I’ve got an audition with a drama school in New York so I’m hoping I can go and study for a bit.

“The idea of going to drama school excites me.”

The couple married in Las Vegas three years ago.

But last month Lily fuelled speculation they were living separate lives, when she appeared to unfollow him on Instagram.

Yet speaking on podcast Who Are You Dressing For?, with stylist and model Kyle De’Volle, Lily has revealed she is committed to her life in the Big Apple with David.

The mum of two said: “I’ve really enjoyed it.

“I enjoy the anonymity I have there, I enjoy that for my kids – I’m a mum, I make packed lunches, I take them to school.

“Then I might write for a couple of hours, read some scripts, go to the gym, and then I pick up the kids and make them dinner and that’s my existence. I really enjoy it.

“Sometimes my ego needs to be stroked so I jump on a plane and come home to London for a few weeks – then I go, ‘Bored now’, and come home.”

Opening up about their stunning Brooklyn townhouse, Lily, who was pictured with David at a New York Knicks baske-ball game this week, added: “A lot of people see houses as their investment, their nest egg, with the idea to sell.

“But we didn’t approach it like that.

“We wanted it to be our home, somewhere to enjoy spending time.

“We didn’t want to think of it as an asset or something we would sell further down the line.”

Last month, Lily paid tribute to her husband on their third wedding anniversary, as she posted on Instagram a shot from their wedding and wrote: “3 years with this guy, 2nd best decision I ever made. 1st was that dress.”

The pair were first linked in January 2019 after attending the Bafta Tea Party in Los Angeles together.

Then in October of that year, they became Instagram official when David shared a photo of them together at Disney World, Florida.

Speaking about meeting her man on dating app Raya, Lily said earlier this year: “It was the first time I’d been on this app.

“I was scrolling through, landed on David’s profile and pressed accept.

“I didn’t know who he was.

“I thought he was just a sexy policeman from a reality TV show.

“He was wearing a policeman’s uniform.”

She is now eyeing drama school after huge recent success on stage – starring in the West End production of Ghost Story 2.22 last year and more lately black comedy The Pillowman.

Maybe it’s Lily who should be giving acting lessons.

OLIVIA BOWEN is sexier than ever thanks to finding her fashion feet.

The reality star, who made her name on Love Island, revealed: “Knowing what looks good on my body and what it makes me feel like can make me happy, along with the right colours.

“The right clothing brings your personality out.”

The mum of one has launched her Olivia Bowen Edit at clothes retailer Quiz and is proud that sizes range from six to 16.

She said: “I have friends and family of all shapes and sizes and I am never going to create an edit that doesn’t suit as many people as possible.”

Olivia met husband Alex on the 2016 show.

They married in 2018 and have one-year-old son Abel.

Olivia added: “We’re better than Posh and Becks.

“Love Island feels like another lifetime because it was so long ago.

“Here we are with a baby, a house, married – it is very weird.”

Or just happily ever after . . .

Joss: Pa gave me away on Zoom

DURING her secret wedding, Joss Stone’s dad gave her away on Zoom, the singer has revealed.

Last month she tied the knot with US musician Cody Daluz in Nashville, Tennessee, where the couple live with their two kids.

Now she has lifted the lid on how her father, businessman Richard Stoker, got involved.

Joss said: “I didn’t want the stress of a big wedding.

“I just thought it would be more fun and more personal to just do it on our own.

“I called my dad, who lives in Dubai, on Monday, and told him I was getting married that week and did he want to connect via Zoom and give me away?

“He got all dressed up and was on a phone stand during the ceremony to give me away. He was there with his champagne to make a toast.

“We weren’t telling anyone so it was just supposed to be him.

“But we got married and then I saw he had invited loads of people around and he was having a party to celebrate in Dubai with loads of people I’ve never met.

“It was really funny.

“He said our secret was safe though.”

Joss recently wrote the music and lyrics to new West End musical The Time Traveler’s Wife, with Eurythmics star Dave Stewart.

At the first night of the show at the Apollo Theatre, she promised: “We will do a much bigger reception later with friends and family.

“The register office was perfect for now.

“We’ve not planned a honeymoon, but it would be nice to go on holiday.

“We have a suggestion box at home so I’ll put the idea in that.”

For a superstar, Joss is remarkably down to earth.

Time’s up for Iain’s ‘tired’ CelebAbility

There are no plans for another series of Iain Stirling's CelebAbility

IAIN STIRLING’s game show CelebAbility has been axed after seven series.

ITV2’s comedy programme that launched in 2017, airing straight after Love Island, has been deemed “tired” by bosses.

The show, hosted by Love Island narrator Iain, had celebrities pitted against the public in a challenge.

Scarlett Moffatt and Stacey Solomon were regulars.

An insider told me: “CelebAbility had a decent run but ultimately the format was a bit tired, and celeb panel shows can feel dated.

“Bosses are always keen to try new ideas and fresh projects.

“It’s time for a change and Iain isn’t short of work.”

Viewers were starting to get bored too, slamming it on X/Twitter.

One wrote: “CelebAbility not really working for me; just looks like random bits of other shows held together with gaffer-tape.”

Another noted: “I’m not sure anyone watches any more.”

An ITV spokesman said: “There are no current plans for another series.”

On to the next one . . .

WELSH Indie rockers Catfish and the Bottlemen are preparing to release a comeback album, I can reveal.

Frontman Van McCann hopes to spearhead more success, following ructions in the group.

An insider told me: “Van went through a period of recuperation after the break-up of the original band members but is ready to return to form and has huge tunes in mind to perform at festivals next year.”

It comes four years after the band’s third album, The Balance, stormed to No2 in the chart but a year after guitarist Johnny Bond quit over “behaviour constantly re-occurring that I found to be intolerable”.

He added: “To put it simply, I feel both the professional and personal relationships had become entirely dysfunctional.”

Hopefully all the kinks have now been ironed out.

It’s a Corfu Carr-crush

Alan Carr has jokingly been tipped as the new James Bond

ALAN CARR was chased around Corfu by fans during filming for ITV talent show Mamma Mia! I Have A Dream.

Judy Craymer, the mastermind behind the hit ABBA-inspired theatre shows and movies, revealed: “It is funny – when we were filming the Mamma Mia! movie it was Pierce Brosnan who had the tourists and locals chasing him around the island.

“This time it was Alan Carr, who was so popular that everyone wanted a selfie with him.

“We would giggle, could he be the next 007?”

As much as I love Alan, I won’t hold my breath . . .
