Kyle MacLachlan turned down the chance to reprise his role in ‘And Just Like That…’ Kristin Davis explains why.
Kristin Davis is best known for her role in Sex and the City and now And Just Like That… The part of Charlotte York has defined her career. Because of that, Kristin Davis has a lot of thoughts on what works and doesn’t work for her beloved character. In a recent podcast episode, Davis suggested Charlotte’s first husband was a good match. She even let it slip that a planned reunion between Charlotte and her first husband, Trey MacDougal, was scrapped.
Kristin Davis says Kyle MacLachlan was invited back for ‘And Just Like That…’
Kristin Davis has been spilling behind-the-scenes tea on her podcast Are You a Charlotte?. In a recent episode, Davis revealed that writers had created a storyline that brought Charlotte and her first husband, Trey MacDougal, back in the same room. Davis said the storyline hinged on the idea that Charlotte and Trey had unfinished business.

Davis said she was completely on board with the storyline, but Kyle MacLachlan, who portrayed Trey, didn’t go for it. MacLachlan had previously said he’d be interested in reprising his role in the reboot. So, why didn’t he go for it when it was offered? Davis said she ran into MacLachlan recently and questioned him about the storyline. She said he passed because he didn’t want the end of Charlotte and Trey to be too negative. Davis didn’t share additional details about the scraped storyline.
Fans likely would hate what ‘And Just Like That…’ had in store for Trey MacDougal
Kristin Davis might like the idea of bringing Trey back. Fans would probably be open to the idea, too. The storyline that Davis alluded to, however, would likely be hated. While Davis never came out and said that Charlotte would be going behind Harry’s back to reconnect with Trey, she kind of hinted at it. Sex and the City fans adore Harry Goldenblatt, so anything that went against him would be highly controversial.

While fans likely wouldn’t care for the scrapped storyline, the idea of Trey and Charlotte running into each other would likely be happily accepted. In fact, fans were discussing the possibility of Kyle MacLachlan reprising his role long before David revealed it was discussed among the cast. While he won’t appear in season 3, fans can hope they can make something work if Max greenlights the controversial series for a fourth season.
