In 2023, she shared via Instagram her experience getting a Prenuvo full-body MRI scan — a high-tech, radiation-free imaging test that captures head-to-toe data to screen for over 500 health conditions, from tumors and aneurysms to early signs of autoimmune and metabolic diseases. The procedure, which takes about an hour, costs up to $2,500 out-of-pocket, and insurance doesn’t cover it.
While Kardashian described the scan as potentially “life-saving,” her post prompted mixed reactions. Some praised the wellness innovation, while medical experts warned about the risks of widespread use, highlighting concerns such as false positives and unnecessary follow-ups.
Dr. Matthew Davenport, the vice chair of the American College of Radiology’s Quality and Safety Commission, told Business Insider that the Prenuvo scan was a “terrible idea.”
“You find all sorts of stuff that would never occur to the patient,” he continued. “And you end up triggering workups, biopsies for imaging studies, operations, for findings in the body that would never have any importance for the patient.”
