Kevin Costner might’ve been just as blindsided as his fans were after his wife of 18 years, Christine Baumgartner, filed for divorce. But recent rumors suggest that the Yellowstone star may have found support from a much older ex during these difficult times.
Kevin Costner allegedly found support from his first wife after divorcing Christine Baumgartner

Both Costner and Baumgartner have been pretty mum about the exact details that caused their divorce after nearly two decades of being together. But the Oscar-winner has been a bit more open regarding the aftermath of their break-up. In an interview with CBS Mornings, Costner asserted that he was still devastated by their split. But he needed to persevere for both his and his children’s sake.
“I can’t wilt like a daisy,” he said. “I have to go forward. I have to continue to be who I am, and keep a special eye on who [my children] are.”
But reports have indicated that he doesn’t have to cope with his divorce alone. He’s allegedly been leaning on his ex and first wife Cindy Silva for support.
“Kevin and Cindy have stayed close friends and she has been guiding him in recent months over his heartbreak from Christine as she is a wise woman,” a source told Daily Mail. “He really appreciates that their sad split has led to such a beautiful friendship. She is an ally and offers great advice. He leans on her quite often.”
Despite their difficult divorce in the 90s, it was also revealed that Silva and Costner maintained their friendship, thanks in large part to their three kids. The actor has 7 children with three different women, two of those women being Silva and Baumgartner.
“Often they get together for the kids’ birthdays and are able to spend quality time together. It’s all very amicable and friendly,” the insider added.
Since Baumgartner and Costner have three kids of their own, perhaps one day the pair will develop a similar friendship. As of right now, however, it appears that the wound might be too fresh for the pair to reconcile soon.
Why Kevin Costner and Cindy Silva broke up
Costner and Silva’s relationship started all the way back before the Man of Steel star was even an A-lister. According to People, the pair met each other in college. They then started off as friends before officially dating, and Costner wasn’t shy about telling the world how he felt about his girlfriend at the time.
“[Cindy] has a presence,” Costner gushed to the publication. “She was beautiful, she was sweet, she was smarter than me…she represented everything about women that I like.”
“I was just really proud that this girl would go out with me,” he added. “I wanted to show my parents.”
But the problem allegedly started after Costner’s film career took off. Their friends believed that his commitment to movies eventually took precedence over his commitment to his relationship. Additionally, rumors emerged that Costner had a couple of affairs, which the actor vehemently denied. However, he did question whether or not his marriage would be hurt by his celebrity.
“I worry about the effect of fame on my family and losing what I’ve got,” he said.
One of his worst fears at the time was realized when Silva and Costner went their separate ways in 1994. Their divorce may have shocked many in the pair’s inner circle, but one friend predicted that the former couple would be alright in the end.
“I think their relationship as individuals will be okay,” a longtime friend said. “They have a common love, their kids, who are the most important thing to both of them. I don’t think they’ll have one of those cutthroat relationships. It’s just sad, because they were the perfect couple.”
It’s unclear when or if Costner will be reentering the dating scene. There were rumors that he and Jennifer Lopez were eyeing each other, but nothing’s been substantiated. Whatever the case, it seems Silva and his family will make sure the actor will never truly be alone even if he remains single going forward.
