KATIE Price’s mum Amy believes her daughter’s mental health issues may have been caused by harrowing experiences from her childhood – and worsened by her three failed marriages.
The 71-year-old, who is living with terminal idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable lung condition, has opened up about Katie’s struggles in her searingly honest memoir The Last Word.

Katie, 45, was just seven when she was molested by a paedophile who lured her and a friend into scrubland during a picnic and assaulted Katie before forcing her pal to perform a sex act on him.
Amy said the day went from “being idyllic to nightmarish” when cops were called and the pervert got away.
She said: “After this I noticed Kate becoming more body-conscious.
“I think it set up difficulties in relating to men. She needed proper therapy but it just wasn’t available back then, especially not for working-class people like us.
“In fact, I never heard her speak about it again until she was interviewed by Piers Morgan years later in 2009.
“He asked her about it and she broke down in floods of tears.”
When she was 13, Katie had a row with a photographer after she refused to pose in just a T-shirt.
He was later jailed for drugging vulnerable would-be models.
Katie’s fast-emerging insecurities led to tumultuous teen years and, ultimately, her super-confident alter-ego Jordan.

Amy said: “I would watch my vulnerable, ordinary daughter Kate take off her comfy tracksuit and slippers and put on thick make-up and outrageous outfits, ready to go out into the world as Jordan.
“She’d simply say, ‘I’m off to work now Mum’ and the next day I would see photographs of her falling out of clubs drunk and playing up to the cameras.
“It was like an actress going on stage and I think she began to lose sight of who she really was.”
Back in 2021, Katie revealed her mental health journey after a stint at The Priory, explaining she was “recovering from PTSD”.
The star went through a difficult time following a single vehicle car accident, which saw a judge order her to undertake treatment.
Katie had flipped her BMW while banned from the road in September 2021, and narrowly escaped jail over the crash.
And earlier this year she opened up about attempting to take her own life.
The mother-of-five penned an emotional message thanking those helping her, including her family, close friends and her kids.
“Everyone seems to be just dying in my industry of work at the moment,” she said in the social media post.
“I’m just sticking to being strong and sticking to therapists advice, and focusing on the future knowing I’ve been near death in causing my own suicide actions that thankfully I survived.
“[I] realised I have a future and life I can only thank the Priory, my consultant and therapist Alan, family, close friends, children.”
Katie’s mum Amy is donating all royalties and proceeds from her book The Last Word to charity Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis, The Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals, plus St Barnabas House Hospice, Worthing.
