Katherine Ryan poses with barely-seen teenage daughter Violet as they enjoy family night out at TV Baftas

KATHERINE Ryan won several thousand brownie points with her daughter after taking her to the BAFTAs – even if the teen didn’t want to show it.

The Canadian comedienne, 40, was snapped on the red carpet with 14-year-old Violet at the Southbank Centre’s Festival Hall in London.

Posing for the cameras, Violet stood in between Katherine and her stepdad Bobby and the trio looked seriously glam.

Katherine opted to wear a stunning, floor-length gold dress and she wore her hair in a sleek centre parting.

Her husband Bobby, also Canadian, coordinated with his wife in a cream suit, while Violet opted for a black strappy gown.

The school girl wore her hair in a similar style to her mum’s and accessorised with dangly earrings, a little clutch bag and black sandals.

Katherine, however, was quick to tease Violet and compared her to Kathryn Merteuil – the lead character in 90s film Cruel Intentions, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Sharing some snaps from their evening out together on Instagram, Katherine wrote: “@bafta #BAFTAtv  Violet serving the best teenaged ‘URGH’ face.

“She is the 90s. She is Cruel Intentions. She is livid I exist. She is the most popular girl in my entire house.”

Katherine’s Instagram post definitely resonated with fellow mums of teenagers.

One told her: “You all look stunning, I’m laughing at the ‘she is livid I exist’, this sums up having a tween, teenager.”

Another teased: “O the tragedy that is Violet’s face! Forced to attend a glittering awards ceremony and to wear a fantastic gown. The indignity of it all!”

While a third wrote: “How my daughter starting to feel about me
You both look divine!” 

Katherine was 25 when she gave birth to Violet, her eldest child. She had her during a previous relationship.

In January this year, Katherine invited her daughter to join her on Michael McIntyre’s Big Show and they sat in a box together.

But Violet was left holding her head in her hands when Michael sent her mum’s friends an embarrassing text in his game, Send To All.

Meanwhile, Katherine also has two younger children, Fred and Fenna, who she shares with her hubby Bobby.

She has always been open about her thoughts on parenting and speaks publicly about what works for her – even if others disagree.

Last year, Katherine hit the headlines by saying she potty trains her children “from the moment they’re born”.

Katherine said she used the ‘baby sign language technique’ when her son Fred was eight months. She also insisted it worked for Violet when she was that young, too.

Last month, Katherine again spoke candidly about becoming a mother and admitted that her kids had “ruined” the life she previously had.

Speaking to Women magazine, she said: “My children have enriched my life, they’re such a blessing and I would never trade them for anything.

“I would be lying if I said they didn’t ruin the life I had before. But I rebuilt a better one and that’s fine.

“I would be pretending if I said that I could still do all the things that I could before and I think we’re selling this fantasy of what motherhood means if we aren’t honest about that.”
